Arsenal did it with half the resources of City.

So while attempting to go unbeaten you were beaten but stayed unbeaten? God bless the "invincibles"

posted on 2/12/11

Thunderkiss,

The term "Invincibles" is given to the league campaign, not all the other games.

It was an "invincible" league season.

Thunder
What were you doing that year? Going out to Porto and embarrassing yourselves in the Premiership perhaps?
More importantly has Pogba done his medical at City yet?!

posted on 2/12/11

He's waiting for RVP to finish his first

Yep I know but it doesn't make it any less ridiculous. The winner of the FA cup every year has an invincible cup season

You lot spent over 100m in the five seasons before you were the 'invincibles'. That's hardly doing it like Oliver Twist, especially considering what 100m in the late 90s, early 00s would be worth today.

What is your problem my friends from Manchester?

It was a magnificent achievement end of!

Iv'e said it before and i'll say it again, it's a meaningless achievement.

=======

Of course, but a team does it every year, hardly special.

Whereas Arsenal did something that hadn't been done for over 100 years. Something special, something many other great sides have been unable to do.

Whereas a treble of domestic league/champions league and domestic cup has become reasonably common

D'Jeezus relax, they cant handle the truth.
It was an awesome achievement and they know it!

Common to whom exactly, by my reckoning united are the only english team to achieve this.

Where did I say "English team"??

If it's not just English then Porto must be the new invincibles

posted on 2/12/11

Porto are invincibles in Portugal, yes.

posted on 2/12/11

They won more than 1 cup so maybe they are the super invincibles

I'm not trying to devalue that you went a whole league season unbeaten, merely questioning the name the invincibles when you were only unbeaten for about a month

posted on 2/12/11

But it is clearly a label for the league campaign. It was an Invincible League Campaign, something that is a great achievement that had not been done since 18something and has not been done since.

No-one has ever claimed Arsenal went unbeaten in all competitions.

Shame you cannot let any humility into your egotistical outlook on football.

Not everything has to be about how great United are!!

posted on 2/12/11

If I was only interested in how great United are I wouldn't be on a football forum this week.

On a football forum belittling other teams and praising United!

posted on 2/12/11

I've not praised United once in this thread merely questioned the terminology.

in·vin·ci·ble/inˈvinsəbəl/
Adjective:
Too powerful to be defeated or overcome: "an invincible warrior".
Synonyms:
unconquerable - insuperable - unbeatable - insurmountable
