WORST Wednesday game ever

One that really sticks out was the 6-1 defeat to leeds, wasn't so much the nature of the defeat but as a young-ish lad it was the first time i'd experienced anything like that happen to my beloved Wednesday. It kind of burst my bubble because up till that point i'd only seen the good times of the late 80s/early 90s. It was the first time I remember football really kicking me in the nuts

FA Cup Semi against Everton at Villa Park in 1985 will always be a bad one for me. After being really happy to just reach a semi in 82, this one was different, not that we were expected to win as Everton were a great side, but the despair at losing in the semi-final really hit home that day.

Obviously the relegation games always hurt, and if we really care they should!! Losing the FA Cup final in 93 in the replay was also very painful being in the last minute of extra time but at least we got there!!

It has to be the 89/90 season, Big Ron had signed some quality we looked like a team that had potential to go places, playing some great football and went on that awful run culminating in last day defeat at Hillsborough v Forest. It probably wasn't a bad game but the ups and downs of the other results and the old score board telling us that Luton had scored when they hadn't was truly heart breaking, I remember leaving the ground and looking at grown men in tears! For me, weirdly, it must have been the best team ever to have got relegated.

You could probably add most of last seasons and the one before to the list too!!!!

brigg - I wasn't at that Forest game, but i do remember following it on TV and being gutted. The majority of our other relegation games have had some kind of fatalism about them, confirming the inevitable after a general season of below par performances (even the Palace one a couple of years ago).

All this talk of bad Wednesday games is giving my some sort of Apocalypse Now flashbacks. Feeling disillusioned with football, my love spurned, I think I’ll return to my first love, Quidditch…..

A couple of seasons ago we played Plymouth and it was the worst display of football I have ever witnessed at any level. I brought a mate with me and he still hates me for it and mentions it every time I see him. He actually thinks Wednesday are the worst football team he has ever seen

Exactly Rich, we should never have gone down that year, other relegations you feel we've completely deserved it but that one was incredibly hard to take.

We played QPR in the 80's and were 3.0 down at half time and playing so dire I actually left the pop early and went home. At least I got out of the weather.

Losing to Brighton.
Drawing to Palace.

Going to Selhurst is a poor match experience overall - the transport sucks, the stands suck, it always seems to be very grey, wet and cold, the facilities are dire and we always get a draw. etc. etc.

Shib, for me Selhurst has the advantage of being just over the hill from here. the pies weren't too bad last time I went. Back in the days when the crazy gang were there I could drive to the ground and park across the road!!

My worst two games have to be the two recent visits to Reading

For me it was the Palace game when we got relegated.

However bad the other games were, I don't think I've ever been so close to despair.

I remember coming out of the pub in NY afterwards thinking, "this might it, this might be the end"
