Out of all the traditional big names (former World Cup winners), Italy would be my preferred choice now followed by France. Let's hope you can at least make it through to the k.o. rounds, because once there I think you have the quality and experience to make it through to the closing rounds.

Really wanted to watch the match later today, but my other totally-insensitive-to-football half has scheduled a 5pm appointment for my eldest at the doctors' and has 'gently suggested' that I should take the youngest to the park in the meantime. The little one's such a handful that I can't expect her to sit through 90 minutes of football, and I also need to keep her indoors happy until the k.o. rounds.

yer I think we can maybe get a draw today which would be enough...the dutch are lookin good tho

Karma will come back to bite the Dutch on the árse for their shameful performance in the 2010 final. An injury to Robben and they're done for.

The Dutch are due a win tho aren't they after 3 final losses

Not this year though.

They're the World Cup's equivalent to Benfica.

Benfica are cursed tho

I've cursed the Netherlands!

they were unlucky in '74 and '78
the one against the Germans, Jack Taylor was ref. good mate of my grandads ( on my fathers side) was from Wolves

I was only 10 when they played Argentina in '78, but the lasting impression was that the Argies were better. Maybe I'm wrong though.

posted on 24/6/14

No Cruyff in 78 was there?

posted on 24/6/14

The Argies had Kempes, thats all they needed

how do Mex - nope no Cruff in '78 and according to Wiki Kempes played AM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1978_FIFA_World_Cup_Final

even tho im sure he was the prototype of Batigol

Kempes was a striker, no doubt about that Tino. I also vaguely remember him playing for Valencia. Maybe that line-up was more of a 4-4-2, wouldn't have a clue though honestly.

posted on 24/6/14

Kempes is one of only 3 players to win the World Cup, Golden Ball and Golden Boot in the same tourny

Ardiles was a joy to watch. Should've got MoM in Escape To Victory imo.

Pele was always gonna get it for the bicycle kick...thought John Wark bossed the midfield too.....that German lad that looked like Mattheus was a good prospect

John Wark - childhood hero!

Matthaus was a dirty búgger...what a footbaler though.
