Downing - 0 goals 0 assists

Hoenstely i think till the 65th minute i forgot he was on the pitch

He has been the worst of the lot. Goes hiding all the time. Wasteful and left and right, can't beat a man, can't put a decent cross in and can't pass. Always has been a below average winger and he has not got any better.

Wonderful comment. Round of applause for you lad.

What we need is a world class winger, a world class goal scorer and buy a very good defensive midfield on loan for the rest of the season until Lucas is back.

My worr is whether Lucas will fully recover from injury.
People who suffer long term I juries sometimes don't get back to their best
Owen for example.

Who does he get the ball in the box to? We don't have players in the box. That's why we aren't scoring.

Any real Liverpool fans have an opinion on this?

Why do wingers kick the ball at their marker to get a throw in, why doesn't the winger beat his marker?

55 million quid has been spent on a striker who doesn't play and a winger who doesn't perform.

Questions have to be asked.

I'd rather have Sterling given a run that have that 20m waste.

I call for Heskey and James Beatie!

TOOR
When winger makes a long run, they just cross the ball without accuracy, into the box, not looking to see if anyone is there. A waste of energy. I actually don't like playing with out and out wingers, would rather play through the middle

Fit - when there is nobody in the box and the winger has it on the edge of the box, the only thing he can do is pass it back to the full back, which is what Downing had to do on many occassions. We are struggling for goals as most are coming from individual brilliance rather than players being in the box for tap ins.

If we are going to play with wingers then we need players in the box, otherwise they're redundant. No point in buying them if we are going to play like that. Suarez likes to drop deep, he is not a player to play upfront on his own. We encourage the defence to come out easily because we don't have somebody staying in there. I've been saying it for months now!

Agreed, when Downing is playing Carroll should be on the field. I've been frustrated the amount if times I've seen Carroll come off to be replaced by Downing and visa versa

TOOR, you dont have to be a real liverpool fan to think downing has been poor, he has, it's a fact. He never attempts to beat a an, ever. Pretty much every time he gets the ball it ends up with him slowing down everything before either turning around or cutting inside until he can play a square ball to a cm. He also seems lazy and doesn't seem to stand up to be counted when its needed. He could come good but i have extreme doubts.

If Carroll's not playing then we should play Bellamy, but when he is Downing for the cross.

Exactly! If we aren't going to play Carroll then keep Downing on the bench and play a different system! I don't understand it.

The defence is organised and work together so why can't the midfield and attack do the same? The midfield needs to move up the pitch together, the attack should be waiting for the ball, and pass it into the box. It's a simple game. Our defenders are attacking and our attack is defending!

That comment should be ridiculous and I want to say it is but the sad thing is, our best attackers are our full-backs. our centre midfield is too far back and our striker is playing on the wing or in the attacking midfield positions.

Downing was very poor tonight but I am always loathe to be too critical of everything in the wake of a disappointing result.

It's easy to pick holes in everything and wonder what's going on, but if Adam scores the penalty we win the game and everyone would be saying good professional job and a sixth away win.

Small details are stopping us winning a lot of matches at the moment. These small details are the hardest to get right.

Becoming a top 6 team is relatively easy. Chuck a bit of money around, get a decent team spirit going and it's there.

The next step is the most difficult. We are so close which is why it's so frustrating, but I feel we need another two transfer windows to judge the team fully.

By then, the bulk of our squad will have been in place for at least a year, and any new players from Jan 2012-August 2012 will be final additions to the squad.

We are not going to be a top 4 team this season because we are not quite there, but that doesn't mean there is a lot wrong.

I maintain that if Gerrard had been fit all season we would be at least 5 points better off.

Small details people, don't panic!
