LIW, I agree. But some on here beleive it's fact that he is stealing money from the club. I accept people will have views and we will not agree on everything. But debating it is only good if you willing to have open mind which I don't beleive everyone does.
Peacock, spot on, the man is a parasite, who is hypocritical in commenting on the UK's tax affairs when he has chosen to absolve himself of any responsibility in trying to make this country function by moving to a tax haven.
Tommy
You can't claim that much and got to be genuine or the auditors will have you
Correct Jonty, but I know many, what you would call normal individuals, who live abroad and pay no tax on this type of income. Are they the same as Bates in your eyes.
Cas, if that is a comment to me, I listen and read everything I see about Bates, if I had a closed mind I wouldn't even do that.
Don't mistake a closed mind with one that is intelligent enough to see that there is more than meets the eye with Bates.
I have friends who are personal friends of his. I have friends who are professional contacts of his, I have acquaintances who do business with him.
Are they all mistaken when they say he's a rude, arrogant, thieving b?
When I have seen him do good things at the club (can probably count those on the finger of one hand) I have publicly commended him on 606, but find it amazing that after 7 years of nonsense form the man people still can't/don't want to see what is going on before their own eyes.
He must be pi ssing himself.

Cas, I have no problem with someone who has done well enough to move abroad and enjoy a better quality of living.
I don't expect them to tell me how our tax regime should be, how we should deal with immigration etc. If they genuinely wanted to improve those things they should stay here and contribute tax pounds to improving things.
Bates claims council rates relief cos Leeds were poorly, whilst he sat on millions of pounds back in Monaco.
Shafted many local businesses through admin, when some investment from him could have solved everything.
The man is a parasite.
Jonty,
I understand what you are saying and personal views on him being rude etc are probably fair. I have know managers in jobs I have had like that. Being a theiving b.... though is this because he is trying to get the best price for the club/himself. If so isn't this business.
I didn't say all people have a closed mind and there are some, you, LIW etc who you can have reasoned debates with. But can you claim that of all?
But why mention the rates relief. Wouldn't any business do that, even if the owner was a millionaire?
As for the admin issue. That could have been done differently. But some investment would not have made a difference agaisnt the milliions being requested immediately by HMR&C, most of which was from post his era.
Cas, thought the closed mind thing was directed at me, hence my reply, apologies if not.
The rates relief was an example of how he expected Leeds council tax payers to fund Leeds United whilst he sat in a foreign tax exile.
With East Stand development Leeds tax payers have had to contribute 500k of money towards Lowfields road realignment to accommodate his development plans.
Is that right?
Would you feel differently if he was a K tax payer asking for that? I know I would.
We'll go round in circles on the admin issue, but Bates increased the debt significantly whilst telling us we were going to be debt free.
He had the chance to legitimately buy out the previous directors but chose to keep his cash in his pocket and let the club fail so he could buy it on the cheap.
I don't know about you, but I am the sort of person who pays off his credit card, mortgage etc. I meet my responsibilities without shafting the people I one money to.
You only have to read the Police's comments on Bates trying to take them to court to see how people view him over all this.

Jonty, I pay my debts too. I agree I would have preferred not to see us go down the admin route but we did and alhtough I can see somethings in your views, he could have ensured cash up front to the later/local businesses, it came down to historical debt.
The issue with the Yorkshire constorium though is contensious, because if he was in the wrong why have they not won a court case?
The cost to the council over moving the road is something they have agreed to as it fits in with there development of land they own around the stadium. The documents on the council website go into lots of things.
As for the police they annoy me. £80k to police match against Millwall when only 200 away fans turned up. You say this isn't excessive. Also why have 6-10 police horses at each match when they are not needed. Sure they use football to justify this division of the force.

As much as I agree with your sentiments Jonty, the multi-million pound industry of football will generate a lot of tax revenue so therefore the policing bill should be partly covered by the tax payer.
It is the polices job to protect the public too and money should not really be too large a factor when carrying this out.
Can't believe I just defended Bates regime. I feel dirty.
Do you feel we get a fair deal from the police, compared to other clubs? Should we pay more than other clubs?
Is this Bates' fault then or the fans who cause the trouble?
Not sure what you are saying.
Be interesting to know how many clubs in country have made a profit for the last 4 yrs.leeds utd are 1 and doubt there is many more.many clubs are on the brink and many more would be if they did not having owners bailing them out as their Clubs are making a loss but being brushed under carpet because their owners are having to pay out their own pocket, wished some would give it a rest with the bates baiting(pardon the pun) .
On a lighter note,my boy got free ticket for wycombe vs Huddersfield and even a kid for a quid was not enticiing to watch Huddersfield but he says they had a poor atempt
Go wash peacock!
Cas not sure if your post was to me.
Point of my posting the comments from police was to show how they feel they are subsidising LUFC and how they felt completely shafted from admin and how the new Leeds looked exactly like the old Leeds.
Have to dash and get on with my life, but can I say thanks for a passionate yet civilised debate, exactly how it should be!
Sorry it was Jonty. My thought is no club pays for all the policing. If we take it they did this would only be fair, if unions paid for police when demonstrating. Any organisation marching through the streets would have to pay a fee etc etc.
Have good day. Great chat

Poor attempt at our song with 'you only here to watch the hudders'.even Wycombe fans near my boy knew that is what we sing and were saying it works for leeds fans because we put more people in ground but hudders just sounded daft.
Cas,
Is he taking the club forward as a business concern? I have no idea & neither do you !! I know we have smaller crowds than last year fact !!!
but would we have the Pavillion and Billy's bar for the fans without him? I have no idea & neither do you, we may have something netter which we don't have to pay to get into.
Does he pick the team? & neither do you, I but he was known for ringing the manager at Chelsea the night before each game & telling the manager who he would like in them have no idea
& as for my punctuation lol ' wtfay' to tell me what to do matey
You are entitled to my opinion as I am to yours i wil punctuate when i like i will right what i like, I AM DIS LEX IC buddy so I will do wtfiw wehn i want regarding my writting etc deal with it
Lashed, all before him had plenty of years to build these venues and didn't. Within matter of months of taking over Billy's bar is around and then pavillion. Yes you pay to get in, but this can be used against a pint or food. So unless you don't drink or eat, you aren't really paying.
Cas I know but I'm sorry I just don't trust the man 1 iota he imo is a parasite, he keeps taking 1 step forward then 3 back for me, he is imo saying he now backs Larry but seriously unless we get into the play offs imo Larry will be shown the door then where will we be? with yet another so called up & coming manager for Bates to bully experiment with. If Larry up we need a proven quality manager & that won't happen with Bates arround
* if larry dosnt get us up we......
Well, who comes after Larry will be interesting move. Will it be someone who's won promotion from this division before or someone who's done well at lower level.
