My January Transfer Targets

Unsure on Hoilett I've never like signing players just because they've been on form particulary for weaker teams.

Can't see him being a key player in years to come so would rather use the money on someone else.

Looks like we're quite close to signing Jackson Martinez anyway and Abidal may sign a contract with us for next season.

Doubt there'll be much more.

The Great Pretenders
==============
Yeah, that nick griffin is a great right winger, trouble is his dribbling.....it goes all over his chin and top

There's a story on the BBC gossip page, where the Aston Villa manager claims Kenny has personally told him he's not interested signing in Bent. I will be delighted if this true.

Not much spent but would improve the squad until the bigger targets in the summer.

Is Martinez the Colombian who plays in Mexico

Read something yesterday that we were talking with his agent I think?

Jackson Martinez?!"

No. I read that rumour somewhere as well, not sure if he would improve the squad that much, remind me again...in what league does he play in?

Mexican league yeah he's Colombian sounds alright just pacy as hell but we're in advanced stages in the negotiations as far as I'm aware although Porto may pip us.

I'd go with either Podolski or De Jong.
Bent I'm not sure about. Maybe would have done the goal scoring job for us, I don't know, but that looks like a no go anyway.
Don't know enough about Jackson Martinez to form an opinion.

Podolski and De Jong don't want to leave.

Podolski said he's snub arsenal as he wants to fight for his place in Euros at Germany.

De Jong has already snubbed Fiorintina as he 'doesn't want to leave' though it could be because he wants to move to us.

De Jong won't happen. McClaren likes him and wants him to play as a main striker. He turned an offer from Fiorentina down on Fri. and says he doesn't want to leave Twente

De Jong and Hoilett are the type of players we should be going for, and the type of players our owners told us they were intent on signing for the future.

what Liverpool need is to stop buying quantity and buy quality. Suarez was a masterstroke but with Gerrard's age and injury problems, you are seriously lacking top quality. I think a really top class player would transform a team, already capable of beating any team, into a more consistant team.

We need a proper winger who can also pass the ball and cross. I rate Hoilet and hope he comes.
Don't rate Bent and happy he isn't coming.

I would agree with xiuxiuejar (U6109) - top class palyers only. We don't need to buy for the future. We need quality for the present asap

Buying someone top quality is hard to do in January, actually its near impossible. Quality players want European football and money, but we can't offer them that.

That Jackson Martinez guy looks good on Youtube though Bit Balotelish footballing wise...

but buying mediocre players will not do anything to enhance your squad. Back to the rafa syndrome?

I wouldn't say Hoilett, Podolski, Bent, Martinez...are mediocre! You're thinking of players like Jovanovic, Voronin, Degen...but the players we are currently targeting are no way that bad.

I rate Hoilet highly and think he could turn out to be a very good signing like Enrique.

I think Bent is mediocre but I wouldn't call other the same. TNLB

I just watched a video of his goals too, left foot, right foot, great headers, great penalties, decent pace.

Youtube is never the best way to judge of course, but based purely on that he looks a very talented all round striker. I was thinking more Welbeck than Balotelli.
