Wow this makes me feel young

Graham Roberts
Glen Hoodle
Steve Archibald

Put those 3 in our team today and we would walk the league

Had the pleasure of seeing the 1981 team win trophys so this team has to do that yet

Having not seen the 81 team much, i'll just guess

Brad
Walker
King
Roberts
Hughton
Perryman
Ardiles
Modric
Bale
VDV
Crooksibald - Could one play without the other?

Oops, left out Hoddle.

Take out Walker or Hughton, stick Perryman at RB.

At least with hoodle in the team, we might score from a freekick

Spurs 1982 had Clemence in goal (akin to Brad now) .

Mouse, was just going to say , you cant leave Hoodle out

posted on 12/1/12

Went to wembley 7 times in 2 yrs in 1982, has any other club matched that ?

posted on 12/1/12

I would rate the Clemence of 1982 above the Brad of 2012.

Is Hoddle really any better than Modric now?

posted on 12/1/12

Modric is the closest thing to Ardiles I've ever seen

Cannot make my mind up between the two ....I'd have Crooks and Ade as the strike force , since we're talking 1981 Brad would get in , Hodd would also get in but I've no idea who for , Bale and Lenn would be wide and I'd have to find a place for Perryman

This is bloody hard

Cannot compare them very different players

posted on 12/1/12

Sorry guys but for me although they are different players, Hoodle was different class to Modric, he could put a 50 yrd pass on a sixpence and the goals he scored were mostly very special

Yup. Modric is good, but Hoodle has to be in the Top three or four greatest players I have seen at WHL in the past 50 years.

Hoddle on the ball was magical, left foot right foot, not a lot of difference, long ball, short ball, a fantastic passer, and he scored plenty of goals too.

VDV + Modric, comparable to Hoddle : maybe.
Crooks and Archibald in front of our current MF : .

Hodd was a one off and shouldnt be compared to any player which is why I made my comparison between Modd and Ossie

posted on 12/1/12

RDBD.. wow how many would we score

posted on 12/1/12

Again it would be Ossie for me .. Different class

Modric is nearly there, few more assists and goals

Hedly I think you have got the wrong end of the stick , I was replying to our friend from down the road

Sikly smooth Archibald + brute force pacey Crookes.
Like having Berba back + Defoe on steroids.

posted on 12/1/12

Hoddle was a player so far ahead of his time he'd slot in nicely with the current team. Modric is very similar to Ossie, and Graham Roberts would last about 2 minutes in a match today before being red-carded.

Villa over Lennon? I love to watch wingers that beat players for skill over pace. Not having a pop at Lennon as he's awesome

posted on 12/1/12

BTW, Hoddle was 100% luxury.
He always needed a skilled grafter *** (Ossie, Paul Allen etc) to do the spade work in order to be 100% Hoddle.

*** Which is not / more than the Sandro/Parker roles of now.
