i think the vampires could go out in the day as long as they covered up.

that's right, most people were vampires and not people. they lived just like people but they drank blood etc and the world went on at night.

there were only a few actual people left so the vampires were running out of blood in the blood shops.

Children of Men was brilliant. Watched a movie called Blindness with Julianne Moore in it a few nights ago. Worth watching.

I liked Blindness

Had never heard of it and it came on TV so it was a surprise

You read Stephen King's classic The Stand ?

Yeah, there must have been no advertising this film at all which is odd because it was a decent cast and a pretty good movie. Compared to alot of the dross that comes out at least

JPB - No, not a huge fan. Is it good?

Have you guys read The Dark Tower series?

posted on 23/8/12

King wrote some superb stories.

posted on 23/8/12

sorry lads, didnt see the replies there.

ive read most of king's books - with the exception of the dark tower series which ive never touched.

ive been very dissapointed with the stuff he;s done in recent years which for me isnt a patch on some of his early stuff, however he released one last year about JFK which is the best one of his Ive read for years. Worth checking out

dark tower is fantastic

once I started I couldn't stop

just kept buying and reading until the end

effectively read it as one book nonstop

his films are hit or miss but I think he consciously gives unknowns and non mainstream directors a crack at them

which if true is great. He could have just gone for cash and better chance at success instead

Now I have to go look it up

The Gunslinger blew my mind when I read it. Just an unbelievable idea, completely captured the imagination.

For some reason I never went beyond Wizard and Glass which was class so can't remember why I stopped. Is it worth going to the end or did he rush them?

Interesting stuff on the dark tower books

btw, imo the best SK books apart from the stand and the jfk one (and the dark towers which i havent read) are :

Firestarter
the dark half
Needful things
Desperation
The tommyknockers

Hmmm. The only other Stephen King book I recall reading is Pet Cemetery. Frightened the shìt out of me way back when but I was only a kid. Might give one of them a go. When SK gets it right, he really gets it right.

It's worth it but with something that long with that many subplots and characters that inevitably some bits are better than others.

I think he probably had a harder time finding a way to end it than he did to keep going.

A bit like Lost was as a show in a way.

The first book hooks you though

going for the bucks instead of the awards from the sounds of it !

outside of that series, i reckon a lot of the stuff he's done in the last 20 years or so has been junk compared to his older stuff such as the ones ive mentioned above. as i say, a stand out exception to that is last year's book set in the 60s

As class as the early books were, you always got the feeling that King wasn't really sure where he was going with the story and I think there was growing pressure on him to finish the series. He wasn't getting any younger anyway.

Got a series itch to go back and read them from the start again now, damn it.

A milestone has been reached for the movie thread

And we're talking about books
