Im old-school, I play CM01/02 (the best one) with updates.
^ Did they even have computers in 2001?
This leads me to think why dont real footballl scouts use Football Manager to find players
--------------------------------------
they do. many football league clubs save money on their scouting network by using the FM database to have an early look at players before sending a scout to watch them for real.
Harry Redknapp buys players off FM specs
Everton get first look at the FM databases and scout reports, as the FM creator is an Everton fan.
I think it's Everton... It's someone anyway!
I think Blackburn use it too.
It makes perfect sense to do so.
If you can look up Wikipedia for info, why not look up FM for prospects...
@In Diego,
How is Darren Gibson doing in your game? Might explain why Everton bought him...

he's captain and the lifeblood of norwich city on mine.
oh, and by the way - he led norwich to the league trophy last season!

Hahaha. There is NO WAY you still play the old Champ. I do love the old ones but sometimes you have to move on!

I still have the old Champ Man for my Amiga with legends such as Oleg Salenko and Nii Lampty. Paul Warhusrt was an absolute beast on that game.

maybe all PL Chairmen should sack their managers and get some kid in the back office to play the game on his behalf . Clubs like United could save £Ms on the money they waste on paying the wages of the likes of Fergie and Phelan, who quite obviously, have been found out as complete charlatans by FM.

Well I play a network game with my friend and he took over United and destroyed Gibsons development. I think he ended up at Newcastle but because he never played him he isnt that good!
It is 100 x better playing a network game with a friend. Although you can only play when the other is available, you have someone to share you experiences and acheivements with.

Sounds like having a gf....
I generally have 3 games running at a time - my solo one, a network game with a mate and another network one with 3 mates.... it's always a pain to get the 4 of us all able to play at the same time, but it does add another element to it.
@Diego,
I seriously do, Im on it right now. I get bi-annual player/club updates which keeps it fresh so I start new games every 6 months or so.
It has a pretty big following including its own website and two different teams of updaters (one who keep the game as it was ie with players having 20s in their stats and another who make stats more true to life).

FM has seriously affected my relationship with my girlfriend. I actually have very little time for her ha.
I find it hard to believe that a club like Everton has a little geeky boy in the corner playing Champ and saying ''oooo I found a wonderkid'
they don't need to 'play' it, they just use the database from the game.

Well wheres the fun it that! - also it annoys me when I here people use the editor to bettr players or restart matches if they lose. Changing stats completely alters the balance of the game and restarting takes off the gloss off anything you earn!
I think he is talking about the clubs using it rather than people cheating...
young gem for the future....emre can. Mame biram diouf for some reason is also really good on it!
I have been playing Football manager, or Champ manager as the originals were called, since 1992 on the Amiga. Used to ave the vidi printer like in the old days.
This game and me are part of one another. I have not got 2012 as I am in my 34th season on 09. I bloody love it!

I would love to play the old versions, but the new one comes with more ways to score goals... more diverse questioning, sleeker feel etc..
