Nothing wrong with being optimistic Greaves ...well it beats clutching at straws!

Would make sense to extend his contract so we dont lose out on any transfer fee, but as soon as i heard the news it hit me as though we wont be selling him this window..
I dont think we want to keep the likes of Gio or Pav, but bringing someone in is the problem
Oooh I've just seen this!
Surely with Falque out on loan and Gio going there MUST be a SPECIAL PLAYER arriving!? Let the rumours begin
Pav is also leaving (possibly)!
SPECIAL PLAYER is on the way
RRP - I had the same thought, but then seeing that a bid has apparently been made it immediately suggested to me that Levy did it just to up his value (and certainly not to let him leave for nothing)
However I still don't think he will go unless we can get someone in (either purchase or loan) as backup. If we can get someone though I think £8m is a fair price for Pav and Levy should take it.
To leave us with just Ade, Defoe and VDV would be crazy though when the run in now is so important
31 Moments - It was just a strange thing to do, to extent the option of a year on a player who hasn't seen any football this season...it must be about protecting that we dont lose Pav for nothing.....
This is what annoys me, have we not had the last 3 weeks to find a replacement? Whats been going on in that time, i get the impression we sit around until the last 5 days of the window to actually do anything! But £8 million is more than a fair price on a player that cost £14 million some seasons back
We are short on strikers as it is now, we need someone coming on now to carry on our push
i want this transfer stopped
======================
RRP - I also worry about Pav's state of mind as well, lets be fair, there has been talk about him wanting to leave for a while now. Then when he's close to the end of his contract, not playing often and clearly not likely to play again soon, we extend his contract.
If I were him I'd be pretty annoyed by that, he knows that he doesn't feature in our plans next year, why would he be that bothered to play if he ever gets match time. It won't make a difference to him if we make CL football, as he won't be expecting to play in it for us.
I'd rather take a risk on a relative unknown kid than Pav. That only leaves me to wonder how well our scouts do their job? Whilst we seem to have done well (at times) domestically (Walker, Caulker) bringing in some players from abroad doesn't seem to have had the same effect (GDS, Taarabt)
31 Moments - Thats a fair point on Pav's state of mind, but from what i have read, he does say he loves the club and living in London, he doesn't seem THAT bothered about not playing, but maybe he just said that as to not cause a problem with us...its not the right thing to do, but im shocked he hasn't tried to FORCE a move away
But yeah, everyone knows he isn't in our plans, will be VERY interesting to see if he starts on Friday V's Watford, could be his last game for us...
I too would rather risk someone else, been saying for weeks now we might as well not have Pav on the bench as Harry wont use him, our bench is weak as it is, we really need some game changers on there
Our scouts are pants to be fair, the last time they have produced the goods was with Berbatov
RRP, don't forget Sandro!
Mouse - Can you really count Sandro though? We have a special arrangement with Internacional (apparently) so its kind of cheating
RRP - The worry that I have with Pav and not forcing a move is in my mind even when we wasn't playing he was seemingly loved by Spurs fans.
I have been to a few games when the 'super, super pav' chant went out before he had even come on the pitch, only for it to be huge when he does make it on the pitch (we know how to welcome our Russian subs).
This year though, that seems to have faded, I've only made it to one game this season because of poor health, but I have noticed on TV/Radio, that it is now 'Super, Super Scotty Parker'. I would feel a bit disruntled if I were Pav, at least before when he wasn't the main man the fans loved him. This season we seem to have forgotten about him a bit. It is good that he hasn't tried to force a move, but then that could also be seen as someone who is not that bothered about playing anymore and has just as much negative effect on the player.
I tend to over think things far too much don't I.
Who is our scouting network, do we even know that much about them? Are they former players, or do we just get info from random European scouts that give the same info to other teams? Why do I suspect the latter seems to be the case.
Im not one to follow non-english football, but when many people know the names that are being mentioned straight away it just seems like we are cherry picking from weaker leagues rather than finding a real talent.
Gio is leaving...how is Thudd gonna cope with this? I fear for him
We need to steal Graham Carr back from the toon!
31 Moments - Your spot on when you say the attitude of the fans towards Pav has changed this season, certainly with me as well, i was all for selling our strike force in the summer but wanted to keep Pav! Now its the other way round! There is only so much we can take of being frustrated with Pav, he does have a goal scoring record with us which is quite good, but he doesn't do enough, neither does Defoe IMO...but Pav needs to move on sooner rather than later
Well we keep hearing our scouts are flying around the world on our behalf costing us God knows how much yet we dont seem to get any results from it
I follow La Liga and the Bundesliga, so i know quite a few players i would like at Spurs, but obviously my view counts for nothing, just seems like we are missing our opportunity now and its so frustrating!
I'm happy that Pav is going, not because he's a bad player, but because we must have a replacement in mind!
Harry always said that he wants 4 striker competing for places.
Damiao?
Damiao would be a summer signings if we did have a chance with him...which i dont think we do
Still... We wouldn't be letting Pav go if we only had Defoe and Ade as out-and-out strikers.
Remy must be at the Spurs lodge
Whatever happens with Pav I shall have some good memories of him, mostly from last season and the CL, the two goals (ok pens) that sealed the 4-1 win over Twente that calmed me down a lot after VDV was sent off and I thought we were going to throw it away. And the goal from Bales cross agaisnt Milan.
The amount of time some Spurs fans watch other leagues and kill on the internet in forums we should really start a scouting website with recommendations for the scouts to look at. With the way the internet is today and video sites we could argue points with clear examples. What does a scout do? Go to matches and watch games, maybe training sessions as well. Surely they would have time to discuss (or at least read) fans thoughts as well. (If presented clearly and not just people going sign x he's well gud innit)
Surely scouts only get info from the resources we have (games/media coverage) with a bit of help (ha) from agents and people at clubs. Why can't we start a fan scouting network up. (Hell, I might even watch some foreign leagues if I thought I could help out my club).
Pav has given us some good goals, his Volley against Bolton last season was never given the attention it deserved
My issue with scouts is putting aside all the problems around Suarez..we apparently went to watch him 14 times over a 2 year period and yet we didnt deem him good enough?
31 Moments
Good idea. Can I be a senior scout? I'll dedicate all my free time to FM11/12, FIFA 12, YouTube and the BBC Gossip article
I'm glad we didn't get Suarez now - people were saying Samba might be a disruptive influence, but that little has done himself and LFC no favours.
I'm still quietly confident Damiao will turn up at the lodge at SOME POINT - the special relationship we've got has got to be good for something!
RRP - I'm inclined to agree with them at this moment in time, technically he's great, plenty of skill and movement. Yet. his conversion rate is awful. According to this link it is only 7%
http://www.eplindex.com/7625/premier-league-strikers-comparison-opta-stats.html
That could be wrong, but for a striker that was what £22m? its not that impressive, though everything else is fairly good for him.
Still Im glad we didn't sign him, his petulance annoys the hell out of me.
@Doovde, I think we need to see more of the players than video games and the BBC gossip (reposting rubbish from trashy papers and thus giving it more credibility than it deserves).
The idea for a site though would be interesting, surely there are Spurs fan clubs in many countries that could offer us more info about players in their leagues. If they watch them on a regular basis surely more knowledge is useful than just a few games.
If they did go and watch Suarez 22 times (and didnt they think he was more a VDV player - well I suppose with the conversion rate they might not have seen him as a main striker rather a potential playmaker). It would be nice to hear why we thought he wasn't good enough (even though I am with them on this one).
could care less if anything happy to see him leave. all this talk about how talented he is yet i never saw any of that when he was wearing a Spurs shirt. hope he sits on the bench wherever he lands.
I hope he is a success where ever he goes and the same for Pav.
Its a sad case for Gio as in my mind its another talented youngster we have failed on. I feel Harry is too old and with the pressure to succed on his shoulders he doesnt have time to nuture the youth we have.
