I can't think of any who are Statue worthy.
However the outside of the Emirates has pictures of club legends on it. I would say that a similar idea at the Reebok would allow us to honour the likes of Jussi, SKD, Gudni and Super John. I'm just not sure that any of them are quite up there with the legend that is Nat. "Local boy done good" who only ever played for his home town club. That just doesn't come along these days.
as a non bolton fan id love to see a statue of Jay Jay Okocha
Thinking about it the other way to do it would be to do a statue which features several of the legends of recent times as it were. The likes of those I mentioned above.
If we were to get all 'statuey', Eddie Hopkinson has the most appearances in a Bolton shirt.
I've dined with the guy on many occaisions in the Warbies' box at the Reebok in the past as he was always the guest at the head of the table.
He passed away in 2004 and was another gentleman, like Nat, with loads of brilliant stories to tell.
I think you got it spot on with your first post, WF.
There are plenty of players that could possibly be deemed as "statue-worthy" like Jussi, Gudni, Jay Jay etc. for the same reasons that Tony Adams now has one outside the Emirates. But Nat has set the benchmark now for what earns you a statue and no-one else (that I can think of anyway) has reached that standard. Great players and club men, but no Nat Lofthouse.
hmmm... in answer to the OP...no.
however, the club should have a 'montage' of club legends (super Kev, super john, campo etc) on display in a public location...

Wow, it must be brilliant brown nosing the "Warbies".
In answer to the OP, no, for the same reasons as Mr T.

So what if Jussi were to break his record? Would he be statue worthy?

Jussi would need another 107 appearances. No chance.

It was more like the Warbies brown nosing us as one of my brothers was the buying director for ASDA.
Wow, that's even more impressive, Bricks. Perhaps you could get your brother to run you through how company accounts work some time.
do i detect a bit of a feud going on here?
He has done really well largehat.
Now a non-executive director of TJX Europe.
I pay my accountant to do accounts whilst I keep networks running smoothly and cost effectively.

48 apparently. Not difficult given theres 38 league ones a season and throw in a few cup ones. Who knows if he'll get a new contract/be a regular starter next season though.
The 107 is to equal the record in all competitions.
Trig, no feud, just fancied WUMming Bricks for boasting about "dining with the Warbies" but he isn't taking me on
largehat, for free ticket, food, beer & program, I'd dine with Hitler!
With regards to the statue though, surely what makes Lofthouse special is the role he played in the club, even after his playing days were over?
BSA would merit a statue, if he wasn't so bleeding ugly.
Bit harsh Campo, I mean we all know he's not going to win any Mr Universe competitions, but at least he isn't ginger.........
Michael Johansen was ginger, WF. He was quality! Megson's hair colour wasn't his most irritating characteristic!
Aye it wasn't, but it was up there.
However try to imagine what Big Sam would look like with ginger hair!! Its not a pretty sight!
I'm worried about you Campo!!
Personally I dont think any footballer is ever statue worthy..they are just sportspeople..They didnt fight and wins wars or abolish slavery or write great works...
The thought of a statue some day to the likes of Rooney makes me squirm...
Anyway we would probably hire the sculpture who did Fred Dibnahs in the town centre...looks naff all like him!
Thats a fair point oneafter.
However to play devils advocate try this one. Many players from Africa, including every Wanderer's favourite former winger Diouf, send alot of money back to the place they grew up, either to family or through charitable foundations to improve the living standards and future prospects of youngsters from the same background as them. They could quite easily just pocket all the money and never look back but don't.
Thats the sort of attitude some would argue makes them just as deserving of a statue as the famous humanitarians of the Victorian era.
Like I say, I take your point, very few footballers do anything to set themselves apart and warrant a statue in the way that the residents of Trafalgar square did.
