metro - you're living in the past. Your revenue streams have been sliced due to the lack of CL for (soon to be) 3 seasons. Your sponsorship deals only pay to their maximum if you are achieving in that competition.

Hence the reason that your new set of Yanks stressed that CL qualification was their expectation at the start of this season.

It appears that a mickey mouse cup final is the limit of your expectation.

Juggernaut? LOL, it was a knackered old artic, that's been stripped for spares & the carcas has been steam rollered by the new kid on the block, from up the east lancs.

Sorry metro, we weren't talking about rebuilding, you questioned what success we had achieved by spending thriftly? I pointed out that bar champions league appearances.three years ago, in the last five years it has brought the same success as lfc. You again dodged the question - as a Liverpool fan are you suggesting these last five years have been a success?!?! For a juggernaut no trophies in five years is an embarrassment. I like the way you are setting yourself up for a fall by presuming you'll beat Cardiff as well, shows the arrogance. Do you know, I never thought I would.see the day a Liverpool fan had to claim the last five years a successful period based on revenue and two top four finishes!!!! it must hurt fans of such a juggernaut to have to temper expectations these days, hoping for a lucrative sponsorship deal or a top four finish! My, how times have changed. I wouldn't be crowing about all this money you are generating when out of £80 million quid his best but has been

So you want to disregard my point about investment and how it's not about immediate rewards but a prolonged plan that can stand the club in a good position for the future.

We are in a better position to challenge. We are in a better position to reap the benefits (see lucrative kit deals). This does take money but the rewards are better than just floating in the table and winning nothing for nearly 2 whole decades.

The champions league win was pretty much won by players who had been invested in years prior. Investments that not only took time to settle in but investment that ended up bringing the greatest prize in club football back to the club (for the 5th time incase you didn't know)

Again, we're now making signings, not just for the next 12 months but for the next few years.

Most of our spending has been done in the last 2 years - but that has coincided with selling assets and obviously the magnificent kit deals/sponsors etc.

You're prepared to include your own parameters just to suit your argument. Truth is, people will look back at the first decade of the 2000s and say, wow - Liverpool collected 2 league cups, 2 FA cups, Uefa Cup, 2 super cupd and a European Cup. Beaten finalists in 2007 which at least generated loads of money. Lucrative kit deals / sponsors. Now approaching another trophy (so soon after the financial boost of FSG)

That's factually incorrect plums.

You're the 3rd highest spenders since the inception of the PL. Only City & Chelsea have spent more.

United trail £50M net behind you, & have lifted the holy grail 12 times during that period, to your ZERO.

In the last 5 years you've averaged nearly £17M net spend per annum, which is virtually identical to your net spend for the 3 years prior to that........again, the only teams who outspent you during that entire 8 year period was the 2 benefactor funded clubs.

Your 6 year drought for a pot is woeful given your spend. Dalglish's spending looks even poorer than his predecessors.

A mickey mouse cup final for a net spend of £83M since 2006 & you consider that as "investment"? LOL you're a clown pal.

For what? A league cup and a Uefa cup spot?!?! How the mighty have fallen!!!!!!!

You have brightened up my day - the knowledge that upper mediocrity is what makes Liverpool Fans happy these days is sheer joy. You have been able to lord it over over us but wow - having spent £80 million in the last 12 months in order to chase a league cup win and a uefa cup spot - times change. I suppose if you go back to the 70's and I guess Leeds were in the position you used to be. I hope you don't spend too much money chasing the coat tails of Manchester and disappear from sight. What are the odds of hearing 'Yanks out' in two year's time? De ja vu?

Is it:

Lets break it down:

last 2 seasons
season 11/12 - spent 56.4 million
season 10/11 - spent 80.4 million

Lets see the 2 prior to that:
season 9/10 - spent 36 million
season 8/9 - spent 39 million.

You've just been defeated with facts sonny jim

Note that the original quote was "most of our spending has been done in the last 2 years"

This conveniently seems to have been when FSG and the new contract deals have come into play.

But lets not let allow facts to get away eh
