I think it had more to do with asking for 600k for another CB, getting whipped by Brum and then saying after the match that he has no funds to work with based on He-Whose-Name-I-Don't-Type's interview with Ben Frye afterwards.
I agree with JLA's last point in that it was probably the 'lack of funds' interview that got him the sack.

Well Cas, considering it is a football club and he was a football manager, at the end of the day they are all football decisions. This is really becoming a semantical conversation. Nevertheless, I still think the final straw was SG's statement that he was working without sufficient funds or something along those lines rather than just what we see on the pitch, i.e. football.
