He won the league unbeaten, and also won the Europa League in his second (?) season as a manager!
He is most certainly good enough for the job, imo.
Just because you have done well in another country and weaker league, that doesnt mean you are automatically cut out for one of the top and hardest jobs in English Football.
Well, given that Jose Mourinho took the same path (albeit via the Champions League instead of the Europa League), you were well within your rights to expect a good manager.
As for it being a "weaker" league, there are still three or four very good teams in the Portuguese league, so for a young manager to not only win it, but do so unbeaten, is no mean feat.
Just because AVB achieved nearly the same feat at the same club doesnt make him as good as Jose. I dounderstand peoples opinions backing up AVB for this however.
Anyway the fact is Jose won the Champions League and AVB won Europa. Your not a special manager just by winning the Europa League.
On a whole SuperGoon, the portugese league is very weak. Benfica, Sporting and Porto are the only real consistent teams in that league who have been challenging for the past decade. The rest of the league are practically unknown semi pro standard teams.
AVB came into the job and was fortunate to have a team that has the respective aura of Man United and decent players. Managing Porto is one of the easiest jobs out there IMO.
Anyway, I still support AVB due to the fact that the players have let him down massively. As much as he is out of his depth, the Chelsea squad on the pitch are just taking the absolute P!ss
Just a quick question:
Say we lose to Birmingham, Napoli, Bolton and WB, will you still stand by AVB?
P.s. Pls don't play "you are a plastic" card, I just wonder under what circumstances would fans start calling for his head.

I don't call Chelsea fans plastic. I'm actually the one that is victim of that tag the most time.
If we fail to get a result in the majority of those 4 games then I will definetly be calling for AVB out as its clear to see he is not cut out for the job.

Thing is with AVB we really don't know enough about him as a Prem manager...
We didn't know much about Mourinho either in truth, many had never heard of him before he came, but JM had the advantage of a brand new batch of players along with the quality of players already at the club & in their prime JT Lamps etc
AVB has not had this, he's had a £50m flop dumped on his door step, & a waning squad
Mancini has had the same as JM & it's bearing fruit...annoyingly Utd have bought little & have two geriatrics & are still top
That does bug me to be honest...

No excuses!! AVB had the chance to change the squad in the summer. He had the media asking him questions to suggest he new who our underperformers were last season, but yet he still decided to give them a chance. His lack of summer activity has shot himself in the foot. When I heard his comment about 'giving players the opportunity to prove themselves', I knew that either AVB is a mirracle worker or we are in big trouble.
As for United Sheriff, they have a great manager, a balanced squad albeit average on a whole and most importantly the have a 5star training camp/regime. We have a rubbish training set up which is why we play so poor every weekend nowdays.

Never been there myself - but I suspect that is not the reason for our slump
We can´t keep dumping managers every season.
AVB needs at the very least a full season. Really he needs the summer to bring in his own players. Sacking him now would make us the laughing stock of the country.
Even worse who would want to manage us after sacking AVB ?
I can´t help but feel that too many of our fans have this fantasy of Mourinho coming back to Chelsea in shining armour and saving us all.

To be honest no I am not. But what do clubs train 5 days a week for???
Answer: To prepare and be in the best shape for the next match. To get the tactics, movements and strategy spot on.
Training is one of the most important tasks a manager needs to be on top of in football. You need the right coaching setup etc so you can translate this onto the pitch come game time.
When I saw United last week I was very impressed with thier movement and the understanding between players. That can only be developed through a great training regime.
I guess you could say losing Steve Clarke was not a good thing, & he hasn't been replaced, I even liked Ray Wilkins, but Roman didn't & we never got to the bottom of that
As for our training facility -

Well its clear that we are not utilising this 5* looking complex effectively.
Just because it looks nice, that doesn't mean that we are using it to its true potential which is clear by the way we are playing every week.

Who's to say AVB wouldn't have won the Champions' League this season with Porto?
They had a system under him that was offensively frightening, this season they just aren't at that level.
Coincidence?

We will never know now will we but he should have stayed to find out how good he was at the highest level..
Just because he was doing a great job at Porto it doesn't mean he can automatically mirror Jose's success at Chelsea.
Porto have also lost thier main striker too, so I'm not suprised they have gone down hill.
Obviously we can't know now, but it gives me hope that, given the backing to build his own team, he can make us similar to if not better than what he had at Porto, though the egos have to go.
