Im sure Levy has a plan for your beloved superstar striker to arrive in the summer RRP, just be patient
Tarrico - Read the comment above to answer number 7
Agreed though, the whole team played brilliantly against Newcastle and in fact Bale had a very quiet game by his standards
Messia
By the way I think the reason for the lack of signings and only getting short term/ loan players is because Levy is expecting a change of manager.
Did anyone else think the Marseille chairman's comments about a huge bid from us seemed a bit staged?
Dec - I did say that in the article, and if thats the case then thats fine...but we have had some "big bids" rejected before and it does seem a bit strange
staged not strange.....
I dont think a bid ever went in.
Not sure we will ever find out
Similar to when we supposedly put an offer in for Aguero..not sure that happened either
We will never know, but i would be confident that if a new manager does come in then big signings will follow.
Hope so!
I imagine our finances are looking quite good at the moment with the profit's made over the last year
Surely if we did bid £18 million for Remy, that would have been enough to secure the deal?!
In my opinion we never put the bid in more like Levy just asked them to say it did.
The chairman, manager and player all said he would not leave in this window.
Also would Levy spend £18m on a player that a new manager might not want........Bent, Dos Santos and Bentley spring to mind.

I'm proud to say i approved of the signings
I wish 31 Moments could made written the article for me
I dont think i was against Saha, it was just being let down at the quality of players brought in over the last 3 windows and the lack of spending. I do find it annoying that we dont seem to work on deals during the weeks and then bring in 2 players on the last days on a free
As you say, they are signings on short term deals as we dont know what Harry is going to do yet
(argh) the problem with long replies is the thread continues and my post is a bit late.
On the subject of Remy and the bid, it seemed like a nonstarter at the time. I think Remy said he wanted to stay (at least until the summer) and I can't blame him for that, they have Inter Milan in the next round of CL and no doubt he wants to play against them. I think it was always going to be hard to lure someone who will be playing in the CL to a team that currently isn't. Hopefully though we have done ourselves some good with the club and the player and have a better shot in the summer (if we are still interested)
A bid might let the player know that we do want him, but repeated bids might just annoy the club so they don't sell him to us.
If we have CL to look forward to hopefully we can attract bigger names next year, but we still need to get it and then we will see.
Levy always seems to be learning as he goes, he's certainly come on a long way, I have faith.
31 Moments - You always make some interesting points so dont worry if your late in typing them
Not sure if Remy was EVER for sale anyway! He is still in the CL and Marseille wouldnt want to sell him mid-season, but i do wonder why we sent Harry to watch him if we were not interested
Remy knows we are interested and he has said he would like to play for us but for now he is going to remain with Marseille...there might be something in this deal come the summer and if we finish in the Top 4
What if Mourhino does not rate him?
I keep meaning to write an article RRP, the only two I have done was 1 saying hello (and being shot down as Mich) and the other about Huddlestone's injury.
The main problems is keeping it going seeing as often I am too busy with sleep during the day. I might try and write one during the next few days and post it next week (Im currently on hols). Making sure I am on daytime schedule to do so. Would be nice to spend a day on here really having a proper chat and following several threads.
I don't post that much, but hopefully people are starting to get to know me, In saying that two seperate posters (Bales left boot and YVicious) have both said my actual name on the forum. I was thinking about changing my name recently as well, but then I figured that would make it harder for me to be known,. its a shame, as I thought of Spongebath Soiledpants (which I have no shame in admitting to making me chuckle for more than I should of at my own joke).
Anyway back to topic. The big issue with Saha is fitness, and the fact that Everton aren't the team they were even a few years ago, I think with the amount of chances we create Saha will certainly bag a few goals for us.
Damiao + Pep for the summer.
That should bring Mich out from under a stone ...
31 Moments - Yeah i remember that article, Mich had everyone worked up into a frenzy at that point but it was clear your not him..you can actually speak English!
JA606 is here if you have the time, im not on in the evenings do i dont really know how busy it is etc, but you will always find some good reads
Spongebath Soiledpants
That was my point on Saha, he has always had injurys and he is not getting any younger, as i said in the article if he can get another 6 or 7 goals i will have no problem in admitting i was wrong on certain aspects..but not others
RRP - With regards to Remy and whether we were interested or not. Sometimes I think we take too long over decisions to buy. I might be wrong in the number, but didnt we watch Suarez 22 times before deciding not to buy him (and that his best position was more a VDV role - though I'm not to against that, seeing as how his play is great but his conversion rate for a striker is low). - Having said that, so glad we didn't try and sign him.
I think Harry wanted a look see, I wonder if our scouting network is reporting Remy as a possible and Harry then goes along to make sure that he will suit us.
This is where perhaps Levy has grown a bit. Two signings spring to mind. Bent and Bentley.
Bent seems to thrive as the loan striker where he is the pinnacle and focus of the team, we can see after he has left us that he can do well, if the formation is to suit him and given a run. However our formation at the time was not suited to him and it was a bit of a flop.
Same with Bentley. when we play fast flowing football all of a sudden we ended up with another promising player that just didn't fit it with the team. Too slow on the ball, getting past players etc. At times great with crosses and the goal against Arsenal but all in all just not suited to us.
Now I think Levy would rather size up a player and make sure it will be a fit, I think this is a much better plan, but it has its downfalls like potentially missing out on Leandro. Spotting the right player quicker is hopefully Levy's next lesson.
31 Moments - Dont get me started on our scouts !
I totally understand not wanting to put all your eggs in one basket on shelling out £20 odd million on a player, but at times you need to take a risk and as you say it looks like we might have missed out on Leandro, who would be a brilliant signing, both for now and the future
You can talk about players like Bentley being poor signings, but Berbatov and Modric were also huge amounts of money for us at the time and look how well they did..you need to take a small gamble in the current market, after all, is not EVERY signing a gamble?
I have said in the past that I don't follow foriegn leagues so I can't really comment on the two signings of Berbatov and Modric as I know little about them from before they came to us.
Whilst I understand that all signings have an element of risk to them, the signing of Bentley was especially bad as we already knew he didn't have much pace from his Blackburn days. I think he was hampered by the fact we didn't have any real great headers of the ball for him to put the crosses onto. Yet, I say that and it sort of highlights my point, it was a bad fit for the team rather than a bad signing.
We do seem to be learning from our mistakes. As such, lets hope all our transfers are done early in the summer so we hit the league running ala 61
RRP
I don't know why we're supposed to feel guilty about having reservations over bringing Saha in with his history.
And it's only been 2 games. I think we should wait to see how it's going in a couple of months time. If he got injured next week and was out for a lengthy spell, then we won't exactly have been proved wrong.
Spurtle - Thanks fella, but i just thought i would clear up what i was saying, i never doubted Saha could score goals, and its far too early to tell if he will be a hit with us as well, he had a good start though
Scored two goals, but that did not win us the game.
Gudjohnsen won us 1-2 PL games in 2010 with his goals.
Same or better is my basic benchmark, +/- link play (assists etc) .
RRP - He was going to score goals, it was just a matter of how many. It was a strange signing on paper no doubt about it, but I suppose Harry's magic being worked over the summer transfers on what looked underwhelming signings too, gave a glimmer of hope it could work.
