Maybe not joke about it? Seeing as United fans seem to be portraying themselves as the moral guardians of what's right and wrong with regards to other clubs fans, being flippant towards their own fans hooliganism seems a bit hypocritical!

An evertonian sticking up for their parent club. I suppose you have got to be nice to them otherwise you wont get any more hand me downs!!

sounds to me that innocent United fans were caught up in an internal Benelux conflict.

"The latest flashpoints come after officers arrested 88 fans last night in a bid to pre-empt any trouble."

Dutch police arrested 142 fans on Wednesday night in Amsterdam ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League tie with Ajax.

Fans of the travelling English side were the target of potential trouble in Amsterdam as supporters of Ajax and Belgian side Anderlecht - who were in the Netherlands ahead of their Europa League tie against AZ Alkmaar - tried to organise hostility.

The Dutch and Belgium supporters planned the confrontation together and it is believed that no United fans were arrested following a tense night in the capital.

In total, 76 Ajax and 54 Anderlecht fans were detained in the city centre, with another 12 people arrested elsewhere in Amsterdam, all related to potential trouble ahead of the Amsterdam Arena match.

"They exchanged songs but the mood quickly turned sour and bottles were thrown. Mounted Dutch police officers dispersed the Ajax contingent while snatch squads arrested a number of United fans."

Im told evra was involved but its ok, he has given his word that no united fan did anything and it was all down to the ajax fans.
United have asked that the FA trial the fans and ensure they get a "proper" investigation

On Wednesday night 76 Ajax supporters suspected of seeking a confrontation with United fans were arrested. A police spokesman said the men were rounded up under heightened security rules ordered by the city's mayor and found to have had weapons including knives, brass knuckles, tear gas and clubs as well as "a large amount of narcotics".

They were held overnight and face varying fines of up to €600 (£500).

Another 54 supporters of the Belgian club Anderlecht, who were also thought to be seeking confrontation with United fans, were detained on Wednesday and sent home and 12 people without connection to any particular team were arrested for "football-related incidents".

But the MANCHESTER evening news quite clearly states united fans were arrested. Is this clear enough for you?

Looks like United fans were the victims, it's likely the United fans ran at them in defence.

Yeah, that's a good excuse.

Comment of the year from the morally outraged united fans. How dare he not shake the hand of the man that lied and got him banned...how very dare him!!

If they think this is something wait until they come to Manchester/Lancashire/Surrey...we'll show them how to really raise hell.

hands up who has been to euro aways, I have been to loads and I can tell you if if kicks off the arrests are indiscriminate. I just think it is pathetic that the scousers are using this as a reason to criticise United as if their fans are angels. If our fans are attacked of course some will fight back and so would Liverpool fans. If you think otherwise then you clearly dont ever go to away games.

haha. do you think this would be your reaction if it was us in the news for this behaviour?

i can promise you I wouldnt start a thread on it. I have been to too many euro aways to realise how if there is any trouble the english fans take the blame and the police like to wade in. i have been battoned, tear gassed and shot with plastic bullets all without causing any trouble at all.

We'd laugh as we know you aren't in any European competitions and it was probably written as an early April Fool's joke.

I've always been bemused by the misnamed 'riot police' when in fact they're usually the 'start a riot police'

The ones that turn up in jeans are the best. You know they weren't officially invited but a mate on duty grabbed them an extra shield and baton.

Nice to see Liverpool fans are blaming Man Utd.

In one incident 70 Ajax fans were surrounded in a cafe before being arrested. They will be held for 24 hours.

that quote confused me

70 Ajax supporters were surrounded, yet arrested

was it for their own safety?

weren't they missing half their defence and star striker?
