I agree standards have fallen hence why Spurs are as high as 3rd. Worst Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool sides I've seen in years.

Spurs will have to spend big if you want to be competitive in Europe, with an aging goalkeeper,Gallas and King injury prone,no striker of enough skill to compete in Europe.
With the number of extra games you will be playing the back up is not there, you could be in for a reality check.

1. yes goal keeper is an issue.
2. we have caulker coming through, on loan at swansea at the moment, so we have absolutely no long term issues at centre back, as the kid is very good already and going to be top class.
3. we have the current players available, plus sandro huddlestone kaboul vdv to come back from injury.
4. we have several very good players out on loan, who could come back to bolster the squad if necessary next season, for example corluka and peinaar.
5. we have lots of money to spend in the summer to strengthen where necessary.

Why ?

The keeper has another year left in him for a start. Gallas we dont need, King has been due to retire for 3 years now.

The only thing we will need to look at for next season is ours strike force and as we done ok in the CL last season with the likes of Crouch up front I would not worry that much.

There are about 6 clubs in Europe to worry Spurs the rest would be lucky to finish in the top half of the prem. Its an over rated competition, in fact competition is not really waht I would call it. For years it has been nothing but a money making exercise for certain clubs in Europe.

First year in and we broke all sorts of records its totally overhyped until it gets to the quarter final stage.

We wont have to splash the cash to get out of our group and thats for sure.

Half of the clubs that play in the CL group stage would struggle to finish in the top half of the PL.

Spurs managed a CL QF with Crouch as striker and Gomes in goal! and we are a better team than last year. Spurs will improve the squad again in the summer and will compete whoever they play.

Very true. Such a shame that Gomes did pretty well in the competition apart from Madrid away. If he'd had a better day, or we'd had someone as stable as Brad in goal, we would have had a great chance of going through in the second leg I reckon...

gomes wasnt great but the blame can only lie with that muppet crouch who sent all his team mates down sh111t creek without a paddle after ten minutes by needlessly lungeing in TWICE and getting himself needlessly sent off

Sandy whats with deleting your own comments, didn't think it was that bad by your standards.

I think people are making more of this "England teams are getting worse" than need be. For the first time in ages, English teams will not dominate the semi finals & all of a sudden we're falling behind.

Its just one of them things. The English teams will bounce back next year, you watch - especially when Spurs are back in it.

One year blip.

United started the CL campaign sluggishly.

Also Scholes is the best CM in the league.

You seem to have overlooked the inter away game where Gomes got sent of after about 7 minutes and the RM game at home where he gifted them a goal. Include the Madrid away games and thats 3 bad games from Gomes out of what 9 I think he was suspended for inter at home.

You think he did ok when that 30% of the games he was carp ??

I would call that disastrous not ok.

Ye Gods standards are slipping, Spurs in the CL, it's an embarrasment to the rest of the country.

Its like Del Boy Trotter presenting the oscars, or QI presented by Johnny Vegas.

An English side could win it for the next 10 years, and the Europeans would still laugh at us and say

"Vairy gud, burt Torttenerm Otspur represented you in thees competision twace"

How on earth are we supposed to counter such wummery, even the erudite such as myself would be hard pushed to think up a witty retort.

It's like meeting your younger sisters intended husband only to find out he's a short a45ed charlie nut, with gambling problems

I think personally it will be very hard to compete with some of the European Heavyweights once the Fair Play Rules start to kick in, and it once again becomes a level playing field across Europe.

------------------

I don't get that bit - are you saying it will be better or worse for the competition with FFP in place?

It seems there are no plans for a specfific salary cap etc - it's all done on profit & loss - there's no way clubs with smaller stadiums etc can ever hope to break into the CL in the future.

Back to Spurs.. apart from the obvious need for a NEW STRIKER I think the main area we need more strength in depth is on the wings. I'm a big fan of Niko but our game changes when we haven't got the pace of Lennon there. Bale is, well, Bale

Will Pienaar come back? When will Gio go? Will we ever see Bentley in a Spurs shirt again? Are they good enough anyway?

Not naming any names, but it could be a DANGER sign if we don't sign another top class winger in the summer.

Is that the same Spurs that set the standards last season ?

Was it first team to score 2 goals in every group game ?

First team to score 3 goals in 3 or 4 consecutive games ?

Won a group that had the holders in it. Which was the only group to have 2 teams from it reach the quarter finals I believe. A group with 2 or 3 league winning sides in it which nobody else had ?

Do you mean that Spurs that beat the team that knocked you out the year before and relegated them to 2nd place in the group.

Oh that Spurs ok thanks

Nah, I was talking about the other Spurs

The team that hasnt won the top flight league since 1960-61.

The team that goes off all premature half way through a season

The team that releases a DVD when the beat their big brothers along the road once every millenium

The team that has won something like 4 of 44 against their betters from west London

The team who will lose their manager and monkey boy at the end of the season, and slip back to mid table obscurity after their moment in the sun

That Spurs

Agreed

Not true I would gamble without checking that we have finished higher than you more times than you have us.

The team that releases a DVD when the beat their big brothers along the road once every millenium

Yes our marketing department is strong thats why we dont need a billionaire and are not millions in debt unlike yourselves. We even own our pitch btw.

The team that has won something like 4 of 44 against their betters from west London

Glad to see you can only quote recent results shows one of two things. A) you are about 22 or B) you need weak facts to support your arguement

The team who will lose their manager and monkey boy at the end of the season, and slip back to mid table obscurity after their moment in the sun

Maybe we will change our manager ever 20 minutes like you do but one things for sure we will never pick AVB

That Spurs

SANDSEND

The Spurs you know sounds like you have been in a coma for a few years.

You might want to look at the here & now, not the was & then.

As for Bale leaving. Unless his contract has just 3 months left on it, then i think we all know what the answer to that one is. A Chelsea fan of all people should know how a contract can stop a player moving teams.

If only RA could have got his own way eh? Just think, Chelsea may not be scrapping for 4th & 5th place with Arsenal.
