Bale Chant

Because Bale looks like a chimp. That's a big different to saying all black people look like chimps. If you can't notice the distinction you're a bit dim.

So if you're only offending one person it's OK? Wow!

no, because the reasons and motivation behind the abuse are different, that was the distinction I was talking about

"no, because the reasons and motivation behind the abuse are different, that was the distinction I was talking about"

But they're not. Both are being mocked for the exact same reason. It just seems here, the mocking of Bale has gone unquestioned because he's white. That seems incredibly unfair.

Different.

Calling someone a fat c is obviously not as serious as calling somebody a black c

=======

IF UR WHITE OR BLACK AND LOOK LIKE A CHIMP IT'S JUST AS BAD, EITHER WAY.

of course they are... Bale looks like a chimp. Do you think every black person looks like a chimp?

Do you think calling someone 'big nose' if they have a big nose is not different from saying all Jews have big noses for example. If you don't see the difference then yes you're dim.

I'm black and I don't feel offended.

Saying that I should be offended at the word "chimp", now that's insulting and racist.

Bale looks like a chimp, this guy looks a bit like a gorilla. One's white, one's black. If I said Bale looked like a chimp then nothing would happen, If I said the other guy looked like a gorilla i'd get called a racist!

EXACTLY S.MOUSE, DOUBLE STANDARDS.

8bit,

I think you're missing my point. I'm not suggesting all black people look like chims at all. In the same way I'm not suggesting all Welsh people do.

The point I'm making is Bale was mocked for his apparent physical similarities to a chimp. If a black player was deemed to have the same physical similarities, and was served with the same chant, Stevenage would be looking at a massive fine, and probably a lifelong ban from the competition. Explain to me how that if fair?

i'm not black, not that it's relevant anyway. Just think anyone who can't see the difference is pretty dumb

Just for the record are you saying all the abuse is the same so racist abuse should be allowed? Or all abuse is wrong and we should all be nice to each other and not say anything rude...

8Bit that's a no-brainer. Correct answer will ALWAYS be...

"all abuse is wrong and we should all be nice to each other and not say anything rude..."

Yeah I get your point there, you're right it wouldn't be fair but everyone knows things are sensitive about racist issues (even when they're not), sometimes too much but that's just the way it is.

I wan't to know who deemed it OK to mock a white person for having similar features to a chimp, but to do the same to a black person is socially unacceptable, and could lead to you spending time in prison.

I feel sorry for the chimps. What have those innocent creatures done?

8bit,

I completely understand the point you're making, and my intention wasn't to make this a 'racism should be OK' article.

I thought it was a fair question to ask, why is it OK to mock a white person for looking like a chip, but not a black?

If Bale wanted to make an issue if it, it would be incredibly interesting to see how the FA/PL dealt with it.

It is racist to think that black people should immediately be offended by the word "chimp".

I don't think so, but there are so many people around these days that make it their job to get offended on other peoples behalf, it's difficult to know what you can, or can't say.

Yeah I understand what you mean now, you're right it's double standards but I guess it's just because racism is a sensitive topic with a lot of history etc.

So why should a black person be offended by the word chimp?

For several reasons, but the main one being society has nurtured us to accept it offensive and unacceptable.

Personally I don't think it's any more unacceptable or indeed offensive than calling someone with a motor neurone disease a spast!c. Unfortunately while it is indeed frowned upon, you'll struggle to get someone a criminal record for doing it.

It seems society deems mocking black people for offence than the disabled.

Personally I am of the opinion that at least the majority of able bodied black people can speak up for themselves. Many disables people that are mocked (on TV and in many stand up routines) don't have that same luxury, and don't benefit fro the same protection black people apparently have.
