So what if it was 12 months ago? The award looks at performances for the entire year. You should learn to read (and probably get a few spelling lessons while you're at it).

I reckon the BCCI need to organise a tour to Namibia ASAP.

Seriously though, the praise Tendulkar gets from the media is nauseating, however let's not forget, Beckham has been getting lifetime achievement awards and been praised for over a decade.

At the very least, Tendulkar is ARGUABLY the best batsman of his generation. There is no way Beckham was the best midfielder in his generation.

His last 100 I believe did come against RSA, but it was at the WC...

Poor old 'Mr hate' he's the most sensitive Indian fan left. Anyone who put's hate in his user name is pretty sad.

The BCCI wouldn’t have the guts to drop tendulkar on poor performances like the Aussies have done with Ponting. Credit to the aussies for putting cricket austraila ahead of any cricketer based on personal achievement and sentiments.

The fact that Cricinfo have waited this long to give sachin this reward indicates they were awaiting his 100th 100….. Very embarrassing for sachin.

Anyone want to start a decent article?

I bet there are more fans of Ponting in the World than "team Australia without Ponting"
So sad to hear it.

Dernbach,

Do you not think this article is relevant for a cricket thread? Pontings exclusion has hit the cricketing headlines, and it links in with tendulkars poor performance in that one board is bullish, when it comes to moving on and another board (bcci), awaits for its master to reach a certain record before deciding what’s best for team in the long run? Can’t see your issue here?

Ps, the stance taken by the BCCI on tendulkar isn’t just an Indian-issue. I think the pak and Lankans would have probably done the same, if in a similar position. Could probably learn a thing or 2 from the aussies and English in terms of long term strategy and management, rather than having a wishy washy short-term approach.

I wrote this article because of the juxtaposition of these two great players having such differing news at the same time.
Poting on tests seemed to be showing a return to form so his failures in ODI are something of a surprise.
Tendulkar getting an award for a performance in a year which has hardly one to remember is odd.

Isn't the ICC contractually obliged to give ST at least one award in every 12 month period regardless of how much, or the quality of the Cricket he has played?

ESPNcricinfo are pretty sycophantic toward all things Indian. They know where their bread is buttered.

Having a whinge hope ? That century was crucial as it earned India it's first tied series in SA ever. Not to mention Steyn was picking wickets in that series like pebbles off the ground.

He also didn't walk when he clearly edged a catch to Boucher in that innings.

Ricky Ponting 'considering future' after being dropped by Australia.
-------------
Surely he's not going to retire completely. I hope not the thought of him becoming a commentator is frightening, where will he keep his gum.

i think tendulkar is going on the same line as ponting. just dont see tendulkar making a comeback. he is losing the respect, and many people even their die hard fans are callingg him a liabilty for the team. I think tendulkar is paying for choosing ipl over national duty and he deserves all the critisicm he is getting. if he went to that west indies tour, where none would have given the importance of 100th 100, then he wouldnt be in this stage. he has gone effetively 4 different series without a 100.

viru Tendulkar is still good enough to play test cricket and would probably have played better if the BCCI had been more proactive in bringing in new blood earlier. It must be difficult to perform in a team that's failing so badly.
I think Lara might have continued longer if the WI had better players to support him.
