TBF Strider,

Fielding hasn't done anything to be dropped forLegzdins

That's correct, but should a backup goalkeeper really be a priority at this stage? Deeney's fine for the odd appearance.

posted on 21/2/12

Err, no, I think Ledzdins will be ok if called upon, a goal scorer & a creative midfielder are more of a prioity wouldn't you think?

Would anyone on this forum have gambled all our peanuts on Nathan Tyson, given his record..?

He's a top-bracket "earner" at the club despite being unproven at this level and with suspect fitness levels. How much more a week would a Billy Sharp have cost..? Granted, we'd have to have stumped up for a fee but you have to speculate to accumulate, and at least he's done the business previously.. Tyson is proven in Division 3. Couple that with the other major summer investment in Maguire and you have to wonder if giving Clough a few million is worth the risk from an investor's perspective.

666,

No I wouldn't, I was disappointed that Derby where after him, but I really don't think he's on as much as some think he is , no doubt someone will enlighten me

If we'd bought Carl Sagan, would we have paid him Billions and Billions?

posted on 21/2/12

We bought Ravenelli instead and paid him billions and paid him billions and billions. Carl Sagan would probably have played more games.

the question should be why are they wanting to bring in a director of football ?

Amber if I go out with a mate for a few drinks and I buy nearly all the drinks it doesnt make my mate responsable just because he doesnt part with his cash

Fantastic comment Bush.

Just exactly WHAT do GSE bring to the table?

No it's not a fantastic comment, it's a crap analogy. When you buy a drink you then pi55 it up against the wall, and that's that. When you have a football club that's a business with employees, then either the books must be balanced or you end up going bust, unless you have as sugar daddy to continually write off the debts. That's how it works. I suppose that what GSE bring to the table is simply that, running the business without making a loss.

posted on 21/2/12

Anyone can do that. Usually owners make investments not take money out. We are heading for league 1 next season. Is that running the business well?

Tom Glick talks about Pompey and Rangers in the same breath as Derbys stabilty. Pure scare mongering on GSEs part. There is an in-between that allows for steady investment. When you do this you can raise prices and fans will accept it, afterall you want to watch decent football don't you, not lower league players trying hard to be better.

We seem to be at the other extreme end to Rangers and Pompey, poles apart.

We are, thanks to GSE's investment to bring the debt down and subsidise our losses.

posted on 21/2/12

Their losses. Its not GSEs investment, thry turnover US$3m They took over with other peoples money and f'ed up. Why do Derby fans need to pay back £30m.

I agree with you that there is or should be a middle ground between silly spending and continual paring back, but given where we are at the moment, how would YOU persuade an American with no allegiance to Derby that he should give a few million dollars to Nigel Clough to spend on players? What's in it for him right now?

posted on 21/2/12

I see we are keeping solidarity amongst us Rams.....

Iwas: I know you say Glick was scare-mongering using the pompey/rangers analogy, but saying 'we're heading for league 1 next season' is a similar tactic. people use extremes to ram (no pun intended) home their argument. It's not worth castigating someone over. I will say though, I agree that the polar opposite of their situation is not necessarily the answer. Middle ground, okay, but let's really heed the lessons of these badly run clubs. Just because they flaunt the law and get away with it time after time, doesn't make it right.

Vidal - We are like the Greece of the league (sorry Moj, just ramming my point home again) <wink>

How much austerity do we have to take?

It's impossible to convince any investor at the moment. They'd be laughed out of the Dragons Den this time. That's why we need to get rid asap. We can't do it by removing our support it has to be the opposite to that because GSE don't give a damn about us and will take us to league 2 so long as they are still making a profit.

I'm with 666 on the slandering of the investors. They invested and left us to rot. We could be 10 years rotting Vidal, what do we do about it?

posted on 21/2/12

We'll just have to agree to disagree. I don't believe we are rotting, quite the reverse. I think in many areas we have very healthy shoots and that these will continue to improve our club in the longer term. Overall I believe we are healthier than one and two years ago, if only by a small margin which is frustrating.

I wouldn't object to "getting rid" if we had a trustworthy alternative, a black and white Doughty for instance, but none of us needs telling that this isn't a guarantee of being in a better place than we are now.

posted on 21/2/12

Ok, agree to disagree and see where we are this time next year.

So many times we hear 'Yanks Out' and 'Get Rid'.

Who would you want to come in, and more to the point, who would actually want to?

Since Longson, we haven't exactly been blessed with 'good' owners - Cap'n Bob until he started getting into financial difficulties and he turned his attention to robbing pensioners, Lionel and The LoG to name but three - and Gadsby et al's 'reward' for bringing in BD and getting us promoted was a sea of vitriol with idiots accusing him of only taking over the club to line his own pockets and feather his nest with The Plaza.

Well, those of you wanting rid of Gadsby got your wish - the only difference now is that someone else is building the Plaza and that same someone else is putting a damned sight less into the club than Gadsby on a bad day.

Be careful what you wish for - and saying 'Board Out' has no validity at all until you can offer an alternative.

And you can't.

To me, this league has proven time and time again, it is not just how much you spend, but what you spend it on. Maximise your resources:-

Now I like everyone, am disappointed that we don't have players like Sharp on our team and think what would have been, had we brought him say two years ago and I feel this is a failing on the part of the owners, who clearly have a very very tight budget.

However I also think Clough has often used the little money he has unwisely and that for every Ward, there is 2 Martins and the Scottish lad. Now some like to say, very manager makes bad buys and that is true, but the problem is Clough goes beyond that to the point of giving up on some of his signings before they even get on the pitch, which leaves one questioning why they were signed in the first place and though I cannot say whether the decision is unjustified or not, how can our scouting network be so ineffectual as to not see failings, which should be pretty clear, if the player is not even good enough on 'a training match.'
-It is one thing to sign a player and he plays and turns out to simply not be good enough, Croft was an example of this, but if a player is so bad you do not even dare play him, how did you ever think he was good enough, that is plain incompetence on the scouting networks part and something we cannot afford 'literally'.

Why is, clubs like Swansea are able to find diamonds like Dobbie and Norwich can get players like Grant, both on similar budgets to us, but we cannot?

like Sharp on our team I have been working with Americans too long, not good
