Blast these new rules eh?!
Ballack or Ramirez, Carvalho or Luiz its no contest.
Having to bring in young, unproven talent is not so easy, might even give my lot a chance of a trophy!
The answer is simple Ballack,Belleti,Deco,Joe cole and Carvalho....we lost so much experience and proven quality in the same season ..a few of them had been at the club for a long time and knew the club through and through..
---------------------------
Ive said this for ages now but people come back with "well ballack was injured, deco played rubbish last season, carvalho hardly played for us in his last year and joe cole has done rubbish at liverpool"
All tosh. You cant predict how someone would have fared in one football season based on injuries & loss of form. Those are all part of football. Who's to say Ballack wouldnt have got injured if he had stayed with us and that he would have scored a few important goals for us.
Same for Carvalho,Deco, Belletti & Joe Cole.
5 experienced Chelsea professionals who were all part of the double winning season let go by the club. Some wanted to leave yes and some we sold. When you let 5 players of this ilk go then you are asking for trouble and we got trouble in the form of a rubbish midfield performance all season.
Ill give you Ballack and Carvalho but even that's a stretch. We were horrible because just about the entire team had a horrid run of form, we had no creativity, our manager feared change and he one striker we had that was scoring was playing for another team.
Deco? Hardly made a difference for us. Belleti has been given too much credit. Often hit and miss but more often miss. Cole? Aside from a goal against utd that season what else did he do?
It just wasn't our season. I have a feeling if we had a bench of the same people Carlo would've still been wary of playing them in place of our out of form team.
nose
A couple of reality checks
Deco - expensive & past it
Carvahlo still class - but a liability
Belletti - strictly squad player at best -good for twenty minutes in a game we were winning
Cole - injury prone & Can't get in Liverpool team...
Ballack we could have retained & used when Lamps was out - but he (Ballack) got injured anyway
It was not the players we got shot of - it was the lack of classy replacements that was the problem
We only got Ramires in during the summer who struggled early on & then Luiz in January
It was all over by then
Sheriff. how do you know Ballack would have been injured if he'd stayed with us?
Belletti/Cole/Deco are all different options! We could have used either of them or all three of them instead of the same old Mikel/Essien/Lampard time and time and time again.
Carvalho would have still done a job for us but he wanted to go.
Its like saying Lampard wil be injured again for 6 months next season for definite and we should get rid.
MrC
Couldn't remember when Ballack got injured - was it playing for Leverkusen..?
Like I say - we could've retained him - but he was expensive & a luxury really
Deco wanted to leave as well.
Sheriff. I honestly believe if we had 3 of the 5 players we let go last year then we would have fared better. Its just too much of a coincidence that our midfield was shocking last season in the same year we let 4 double winning midfielders go. Whatever their contribution was to our double year, they stil contributed in some way shape or form. Ballack is a monster. Deco's creativity could have unlocked some defences this year and Belletti could have been used anywhere across the midfield. He's that versatile.
Ballack was first injured in the fa cup final by that pr!ck prince boateng. He was later injured after the sale. Its pretty safe to say he's on his way out.
Given Ballack and Belletti have spent pretty much the entire season on the treatment table I'm not convinced they would have made a difference
Joe Cole? yes, because he's lit up at the world at Pool
Deco wanted out, Carvalho was a liability in his last 2 seasons
IMO the problem wasn't so much letting them go as not replacing them properly and thinking the youngsters were up to the challenge of filling the boots of these senior pros
However, don't think Ancelotti should emerge blameless from the shambles we saw last season. His horrific and utterly predictable tactics cost us dear in the end
Beer
I think you've just re-iterated my thoughts
Re Ancellotti - yeah had a fantastic first season against probably the worst top four squads for a while - but we came out best & did the double for which he should get credit,
Then he was juggling with a depleted squad 2nd season & had no magic to offer tactically

And therein lies the nightmare of the new rules.
No longer can you call on a bench of full of the real deal as in Robben, Duff, Gudjohnsen, Ballack, Shevchenko, Ballack, Deco etc.
Now its time to have Bruma, McEachran, Ramirez and Luiz.
Welcome to our world!
Ramirés and Luiz both start. Im happy to have McEachran on the bench.

Thats exactly what I'm talking about.
A Carvalho would never have been hauled off at half time for playing a shocker in a CL semi.
And you havent had to blood a youngster like Ramirez for years!
