Because then there would be idiots like yourself claiming it is not in the spirit of the game.

right now whatever the indians are doing will become a controversy. so i think lets leave it there. i mean seriously if india didnt take away the appeal, these boards would be full of filth, and we would have dhoni suffering for that in the press conference.

It's funny..during the Ian Bell appeal they were claiming Dhoni should withdraw the appeal and now they are claiming Sehwag should not have withdrawn the appeal.

Idiots simply looking for another reason to slate India. Silly little twit.

I always believed India should never have called Bell back. As Athers said, it was dozy cricket from Bell and he deserved to lose his wicket.

The crowd should've known better, but to be fair, it was probably a vocal minority.

I respect Bell, think he will become a great batsman (despite his problems on this tour), but my opinion is he really let himself down badly that day.

If you're going to hit a shot and not bother to check whether the fielder has stopped it or not, then complain when you are run out, you are putting your stupidity ahead of the game.

As they say in football, play to the whistle, it was an unconventional stop and an unlikely scenario and I can understand he made the mistake of thinking the session was ended, but if that were me, I would've just held my hand up, walked back to the pavilion and said "Sorry skip, lost concentration for a second, you can be sure it won't happen again".

If I were Dhoni, I would've stuck to my guns, then explained my decision at the end of days play and if the crowd didn't like it, tough. This is international cricket, not a game in the park (where a player gets bowled and says "I wasn't ready" and is given another chance).

JT,
It was a bit different issue. But having said that, It was then OK to have Dhoni's say at that one.It was the right of Dhoni to go ahead with appeal or take back the appeal (not in this case with shewag where clearly Batsman is looking to take advantage)
But if Dhoni had gone on with the appeal then it should have been matter closed .Atleast it would teach the batsmen to be alert and more clever. But that was more generosity on part of Dhoni and looked like a sign of good sportsmanship.Hats off to Dhoni.
But I too favour fair play over So-called spirit of the cricket.Comeon its 21st century.

But as a neutral spectator,at the end of the day That decision looked great(the other decision would dhoni take,be great too).Either decision be great too.But with that decision, India gained moral victory and the Crowd who were booing Dhoni were left Embarassed.
That instance was the instance where India defeated england 1-0 in Moral ground even though they were miserable on field.
So i take that instance 50-50 .Either decision would be great and both would set great example .

Chops,

I totally understand your point. The series started with the whole BCCI opposing DRS and being heavily criticised and also the year before there was some ill-feeling between Wahab and Trott, I don't think India wanted a similar situation especially with Bell being so irate and the crowd booing vociferously, I assume senior members of the Indian team suggest Dhoni withdraws the appeal in an attempt to diffuse the situation (which it did).

However, in my opinion the crowd should UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES influence a decision on the field. To the letter of law (as far as I know), Bell was out. The fielder (however unconventionally) stopped the ball from going to the boundary, therefore the ball was not dead, he had every right to throw it back to the keeper and run the player out who was half way to the pavilion.

If the crowd don't like the decision to the point where they are intimidating the touring team into reversing their decision, then those members should be ejected. Cricket decisions shouldn't be made to appease the home crowd.

I completely second your opinion JT,
I respect that Dhoni's decision even more because I would like to believe that He made it in the right spirit of the game(again if he went on with the appeal ,i would admire Dhoni's competency and abiding-by-law)
Thats Why JT, I call this sport of cricket is sometime very hypocritical with its absurd rule and laws.

Bell was run out because the Indian fielders, who were largely overweight, lethargic, clueless and behaving like spoilt beaten children acted in a manner unbecoming of our great game. The correct decision was to put Bell back in and give the indian fielders a clip round the ear.

Whilst I agree that in the Summer India were pretty poor in all 3 disciplines and certain player's heads went down far too early (Gambhir literally), it doesn't excuse the fact that Bell was trying to have his cake and eat it.

I would've fined Bell for his actions and told him that a player of his calibre shouldn't need or demand having 2 chances.

just true every indian accepts that we have been very poor in the last one year, but that is not an excuse of taking a dig on whatever india does. lately whatever happens on the field whether india is playing good(which has been very often) and when india are loosing there is always something the media wants to pull the indians down. 2 matches before an umpire gave an out by mistakedly pressing the wrong button, and when msd argues with the umpire they say you should accept drs. seriously where does drs come here, If a 3rd umpire cannot press the right buttons when he just has 2 buttons how is he going to handle drs which has so much technology. and also in one of the matches 5 ball over was bowled. what were the scorecard people doing. what was the 3rd umpire doing. are we saying we need drs for little things like this? well thats what the umpires and icc said. I know right now everyone is saying that sehwag shouldnt have withdrawn, and same thing with the bell situation, but you should have been here that day when bell was given out? every 606 member created there own thread to share their view and believe me there was barely one or 2 that argued that bell is 'techniaclly out' but it still goes against the spirit and bla bla bla.

i hate dont worry vidoes and examples like that were given when the bell runout happened, and england fans and other cricket fans said that a very different england side, and this strauss led side will never do that.

Bell was on 150 and smashing that feeble bowling attack all around the ground. After that pathetic incident he made about five more runs. The guy fielding the ball on the boundary rope was to blame. He behaved like a petulant, beaten, tired, overweight school girl. Bell can be excused for doing what he did because the fielders had given up. 4:0

Maksi, don't get me wrong, you are funny in your harsh assessment, but at the end of the day, the fact that Bell was in no trouble at all and looking good for his first double century, made his actions look even more foolish. The softest of soft dismissals.

As Eddie Murphy would say "s-o-f-Capital T...sofTTT"

Anyway, he ended up making his double-century by the end of the series anyway. Glad he got it properly in the end.

lol JT. Thanks mate If my memory serves me right, the fielder didn't even throw the ball in properly? This was not the run out of a great fielder stooping down, grasping the ball and flinging it in to the keepers gloves an inch over the bails and beating the batsman who is sliding in at one hundred miles an hour.

When the bails were knocked off, Bell was sitting in the pavilion eating his prawn sandwiches. It was ridiculous

posted on 22/2/12

loool maksi you make me laugh with those little jokes you put in. eating sandwich in the pavilion. anyway maksi its like the bell runout would have made a difference to the results but the just the fact that whatever india will do atm will be critisized. remember when they won, you said oh great india won the battle of losers. so are leading that from the front
