Cesc is an Arsenal Legend & I will miss him

It looks like this move could break Wenger aswell
*****************
Why?

The player wants to go. Wenger can hardly threaten him.

Or do you suggest we do a United and go round to Cesc's house with hoods and baseball bats a la Rooney?

Any new manager will have the same problem, trying to win trophies while balancing the books.

Its not easy. Try asking David Moyes, Hodgson, Dalgleish, Hughes, Holloway and co?

..........................................................

becoz their relationship is like Father son.he also represents the best player that Wenger has actually nutures from his child imports across europe, I think all Wenger wanted was to see him be a world beater before he left.

I think Cesc will be as good as Platini, if not better.just my humble opinion.

what is teh criteria for "Legend"? and how many can one club have?

I ask as we have obviousl legends like Adams, Henry, Bergkamp, Brady, McLintock, Wright etc

but how is this decided! is Fabregas a legend?

serious question.... I am not sure he is when you look at other "legends" at Arsenal....

But he is a very good player, does that alone = legend?

The best thing Fabregas can do it to get as much money as possible from Barcelona for Arsenal. Certainly going to miss him as a player if he does go.

Wilshere is better already.

He will sooth your pain.

Arsenal 2-1 Barcelona:
Best passer on pitch - Wilshere
Best movement off ball - Wilshere
Best engine on pitch - Wilshere

If you guys watch the gunners week in week out you should be looking forward to the Ramsey Wilshere CM partnership.

You just need some proper wide men.

and jack hasnt even scored more than 5 goals or created more than 10 chances in 1 and a half seasons of football.give us a break, the kid is talented but he is that a kid!

I would say no. If we'd won more than the FA cup in his time here then he might be but quite frankly he's not even up at the Ray Parlour/Ljungberg cult hero status.

Cesc in my eyes will never be a arsenal legend , good player, but that's about it, true legends win trophys

agree mate.... Fine player, but when i go through who I think are legends of Arsenal (i understand not everyone will agree with my legends) I just dont see Fabregas in that list...

if he goes, will fans be talking about him in 5 / 10 years!... i suspect not...

he is on par with Anders Limpar for me....

and there is no greater honour...... err...well, maybe there is...

Super Anders Limpar....

posted on 28/6/11

I'm not sure he's even at Limpar status. But then I love Anders Limpar and would possibly put him ahead of Pires and Overmars in my own personal favourite XI.

But seriously Limpar was an integral part of our 1990/91 League winning team whereas Cesc was an emerging talent in our 2005 FA cup win. Sure he's been a better player since but what's he got to show for it?

He could've been a contender...

well I have forgotten about Henry but Im sure he is still a legend.I never liked wrighty but he is still a legend, I still remember Viera though but to some he may not be a legend.

legendary status is a combo of ability+desire(comitment)+being a fan favourite

to some van persie is approaching legendary status but in terms of performance he has done sweet FA compared to Cesc.

Kolo is a mini legend to me even though Lauren was part of greater teams Kolo is a bigger legend for me.

I think its a bit personal because if we really have to raet it according to performances and personal achievements Cesc would easily be a legend(youngest scorer,300+ app before age of 25,young player of the year+110+ assists,50 goals, club captain 2009-2011

you seem to have completely put him out of your mind <smile>

JJG - yeah, i love Anders... and Stephan Swartz, but Bob Pires is my all time legend, him, and Lassana Diarra....

Fabregas has done legendary things.
His goal v AC Milan
His 14 second goal v Tottenham
His screamer against Tottenham "Dyanamite, Absolute Dynamite!"

Among other achievements.

Cesc is one of my favourite players ever. He may not have won stuff with us, but that 07-08 season he was out of this world. Fabregas has always given his all on the pitch - remember Puyol being sent off and then Fabregas injuring himself by scoring the penalty so violently? His 27 minute cameo against Villa? His goal from the kick-off against Spurs? His long range goal against Spurs? His goal against AC Milan? His goal against Juventus? His numerous passes in behind for Walcott/RVP/Nasri/Arshavin? Cesc has been our best player for at least the last four seasons, he is head and shoulders above any other midfielder in the league, and for me he is a legend. There is no other player I have enjoyed watching play as much except Bergkamp. Trophies? I really couldn't give a ****. I'm a football fan, not a magpie. I want to be inspired by what they do on the pitch, not have bragging rights on internet forums or in the office ffs. And cesc has been the poster boy for incisive attacking football at Arsenal whilst lesser players have asked for more money, sold out to city, fought with members of our squad.

All you who talk about the Ljungbergs and Parlours and Pireses of this world forget that they played in great teams. Cesc has hauled some distinctively average outfits up to the level of competitors in one of the toughest leagues in the world. £35m would be an absolute steal for Barca, and it seems like some of our own fans don't even know it.

I will be glad to see the back of him. One of your best and probably most influential players. Not sure that he had such a great season last time out - but without doubt - when fit and in form - one of the best players in the league.

You will be weaker without him.

they said that when Pat, Henry, Pires all left.... we went from strength to strength..... and if i am not mistaken have won 2 emirates cups since they left....

was going to climb on the we went from strength to strength statement until you mentioned the emirates cups.

actually we never improved when Pat,Henry etal left us, yes we moved on, but improve is a LIE.
the thing is back then we were losing world class players probably at their peak but when we start counting from 2005 it comes to almost 8 very good players which we cant replace except look to rebuild from within.

Yes the cesc issue is really taxing, Im falling apart as we speak but lets not kid ourselves that we are getting stronger, we are not.

who can we get to replace Cesc and how much will he cost!

I'd just like to point out that I think Cesc is a phenomenal player. One of the best I've seen play and more gifted than the likes of Parlour and Ljungberg easily. But being a legend is about more than being good, or being important to the team it's about what you'e given the club as a whole and how you'll be remembered by the fans.

And for all the great moments Cesc has given us, he'll probably be remembered as that brilliantly talented player who never won enough for his talent and then left for Barcelona.

I hope I'm wrong and he stays and wins a hatful of trophies as captain, then he'll be up there with Adams and Vieira and the like, but if he goes this summer then he'll just be someone great who played for Arsenal rather than an Arsenal Great.

Legend? Hell no
Honorable mention? Definitely.

So why do you have to win things to be an Arsenal great?
Seems like a fairly abritrary criterion

"So why do you have to win things to be an Arsenal great?

Because Arsenal as a club have been pretty successful for a long period of time, to stand out as a great you have to have contributed something pretty special. Which isn't necessarily winning things but it's certainly helpful. If Cesc never won a trophy again with us but stayed for the rest of his career and smashed the appearances record then he'd be an Arsenal great, a loyal servant and hero. But I can't really see that happening can you?

As things stand Cesc has done brilliantly for us, but does it compare to what other Arsenal greats have done? No. So he can't really be considered as one, in my opinion.
