I think that Ajax showed too much respect for United right from the first leg, no pun intended. I think if they had more belief they could have gone through. United dont look strong enough or tactically adept enough to win even the Europa league leave alone the champions league but we shall see.

Anyway am hoping the two Manc clubs are drawn together as soon as possible.

I loved watching Ajax yesterday, great team to watch, was sad to see them go out in fact!

Athletic Bilbao will certainly cause them some problems!!

Man United in the 1st leg, home or away?

Home in the first leg this time.

Bilbao have Martinez and Llorente don't they?

Will united be at home or away for the first leg????

Am sure they have Llorente though

United are home in the first leg.

I actually really like the Europa League you know. Got some good sides in it this year

United are home in the first leg.

That gives Atletico a great opportunity. Get a decent result at OT then mount a consistent ambush on united's goal in the return. to my mind the current united squad would crumble.

I agree actually, United looked weak last night. When are the games played and what PL games are either side of it?

A great team to watch and also very young.

But the tie was about 2 games not just the 1 fella, fact

I know I know, as a Liverpool fan we know more about how to win in Europe than you guys do and the fact that you did enough in the first leg meant you could rest a few in the second.

Lodeiro is a really good player.

posted on 24/2/12

Yeah he is and to honest we escaped last night.

I just had a thought talk about getting beat by the 6th best team in holland we got knocked out of the FA cup by Englands 7th yes 7th best team joking fella good luck sunday

It all depends who he plays if we can keep a clean sheet at home, then maybe we can do it, its going to be tough as they are a good attacking team

What was the average age of the Ajax side last night? Must have been in the low 20s surely?

Lodeiro was good, and Sulymanye (sp.) the guy playing left back was competent too, although he seemed very right footed.

I think Ajax had the exuberance but lacked a little bit of guile.

They lacked a bit of quality at the cutting edge of the game but de Boer looks like he will be going places as a coach.

I don't think the Ajax fans will agree with you looking at their league form. They're double the size of any Dutch club, make massive profits most years, have a youth system that in unmatched and they're 6th in the league. He'll be sacked at the end of the season.

You Sir, don't know one thing about Ajax and Frank de Boer.

Last season, Frank de Boer took over in November from Martin Jol, when Ajax were miles behind PSV and Twente in the Dutch league.

Despite loosing their best player, Suarez, in the winterbreak, and their other main striker (El Hamdaoui) doing a Tevez (hasn't played a single game for Ajax for over 13 months now) and being forced to play a midfield player as striker for the second half of the season, De Boer managed Ajax to win the league on the last match day. Their first league title in 7 years, and their 30th in total.

This season Ajax have had unbelievable bad luck with injuries. For most of the season, every game they have been without 4-5 regular starters.

In the two games against Man U, Ajax were without their left and right back (and the home game without one of their CB's as well, with the back up one also being injured). Two of their regular starting midfieldplayers were injured. Their star left winger was injured. Their star striker was injured. Their other star striker is still doing a Tevez. And yesterday even their back up striker was injured, so they played with an Urugayan midfield player of 1m 70 as striker.

If you look at the team Ajax sent out yesterday, you'll find their left back has only ever played 5 games for in the Dutch league (and yesterday his first European game), their right back only ever played 7 games in the Dutch league. Their right winger (who scored the goal) has a grant total of 28 games for Ajax.
And when Eriksen went off, his replacement only has ever played 6 games for Ajax. All came through straight from the academy.

If you look at the team Manchester managed to put on the field, their excuse of lack off experience is laughable.

No, we're very happy with De Boer, and hope he'll stay in charge for a long long time.

Great teams, I think, as I am doing, holding my hands up after being taught a few things about Ajax by Tim here.

And to agree with him that Fergie saying he had an inexperienced team is a pathetic excuse.
