Couple of things:
Ajax do not have the best team in the Dutch league. That honor goes to PSV Eindhoven. It's a funny thing. There were going bust (big losses for the years to come were forecasted), the city council came up with a deal (buying their training ground for an excellent price, renting it back to PSV for an extremely reasonable price).....and with that money, PSV bought 7 new players, including 4 of the best young prospects in the Dutch league.....but because of spending all the cash, again they face red figures for the next years
Secondly, Ajax are - tough 6th in the league - only 5 points behind the leaders. Still everything to play for with 12 games to go.
Thirdly. Ajax have been through by far the worst period in the club history EVER! for the last year and a half.
Because of the lack of results in the last 7 years, combined with the losses Ajax made in that period (we only made profit 2 thanks to sales of players), and the lack of true talent from the youth academy, the great Johan Cruijff came forward to try and change things at Ajax. They made him a board member, and told Cruijff he would become responsible for setting up the football part of the club again (mainly youth academy, and appointing football director). Right from the start the other boardmembers (no football past, or any previous link with Ajax, just liking their cushy jobs) obstructed Cruiff. Even though all the coaches , players and football people in general were behind Cruijff, they tried to sabotage him. Cruijff set up a so called technical hart for the club Ajax, with Frank de Boer, Dennis Bergkamp en Wim Jonk (all ex-players) being responsible for training and developing the youngsters, to managing the first team. He brought together about 20 ex-players, who are now giving individual coaching to the youth academy. Including Jaap Stam, Marc Overmars, Ronald de Boer, Bryan Roy apart from Bergkamp, Jonk and de Boer.
The board ubstructed this by - without informing their co-board member Cruijff, appointing van Gaal as the new General Director, and 2 other guys as Football directors. Van Gaal, the arch enemy of Cruijff. These guys fired people appointed by Bergkamp and co. Wanted to restructure the club contrary to the Cruijff set up. Leaked stories about Bergkamp / Jonk / Cruijff to the press, including confidential documents. Cruijff, Bergkamp and Jonk took them to court, and only the other day the court decided in favour off Cruijff and co.
And amidst all this unrest, and injuries, Frank de Boer still is only 5 points behind the leaders.
Tell those so called Ajax fans you converse daily with, they are phoney plastics, and I suggest they start supporting another team like PSV.

Indeed...and add to that names like Jaap Stam, Marc Overmars...all giving you one on one training sessions!
I hope that will convince a guy like Eriksen to stay a couple of years longer, and learn as much as possible from former greats like that.
Imagine if something like this would be possible at Liverpools youth academy in a number of years.
Guys like Sami, Gerrard, Fowler, Carragher, Barnes to name a few, coaching and developing the youngsters on a daily basis. Surely must be worth looking into!!

So, if Ajax finish 6th. Which will be their lowest finish for decades, no? Then De Boer will still have a job?
100% Guaranteed, especially with Johan Cruijff finally seeming to be in control of the club.
Cruijffs plan is one for the future. It will take a number of years before the next generation of youngsters, but this generation trained by Bergkamp and co!, will be ready for the first team.
Right from the beginning, Cruijff wanted de Boer, Bergkamp and Jonk to lead the club forward. One bad season won't change this.

We shall see. Like I said, I'm going on what I get told when I go out there and it certainly isn't all as positive as you make out.

My god man, not all is as positive as I make out?
I just told you we have been through the worst period of the club ever.
The amount of dirt board members and other club officials leaked to the press have been incredible.
False rumours, official confidential documents, secretely taped private converstations, everything has been used. Board members fighting a court battle for months.
Things got so bad, even our arch-rivals, fans from Feyenoord, thought this too much and expressed their sympathy to us.
Things have been awful. But maybe, just maybe, there is light at the end of the tunnel, with all those former greats like Bergkamp, de Boer etc trying to restructure the club, and take it back to the top of the Dutch league (and a bit closer to the European top).
Now, I am very excited about that prospect, and hope they will get the time to turn things around.
