From a dressing room and transfer point of view i'd say hes been successful from what was left by SM. But overall its results that matter and what happens from now will determine success and failure.
when he came in the squad was lacking in balance and more importantly confidence . First 2 games we got the new manager honeymoon period that normally happens and since hes been allowed to bring in his own sort of players hes added the balance we were missing and weve looked alot better . Confidence will always take time to build and theres no short term fix . If he keeps us up then to me hes been a success .
Either way im confident hes the man to build a squad that is going to change drastically over the summer with many out of contract
Wow.
Can't believe some the answers. Madness pure and simple. Cotterills reign although short has been one of the worst in our history. Results and stats prove it. All with a side that is arguably better than the one Billy took to two playoffs.
He wins two games and now he's a success. The mans never been a success at this level and never will.
God some of our fans are fickle. If we'd have lost yesterday half our fans opinions would be different.
I'll continue to support our manager, because he's our manager. Simples.
The team he took over had been decimated by poor management and poor acquisitions. Team morale was low and to turn things around, from where it was, is a massive achievement. Yes it's taken too long to happen, but given the circumstances of the past few months, I think that's forgiveable.
Since he's had chance to put his own influence on the team, it has been a success. We have played well, and continuing this form, we will not only stay up, but will stay up comfortably.
Hopefully given a summer transfer window to shape the team further, much in the way he has done so far, we will again be play-off hopefuls.
I like Cotterill, and I really want things to work out for him. Hopefully things will continue the way they're going currently, and we'll win a few more games in the coming weeks.

____________
No it hadn't.
McLaren tore the heart out of Nottingham Forest. He puchased players who weren't right for Nottingham Forest (Greening, Cunningham, Boateng, Derbyshire, Miller).
Cotterill has brought in good honest players, who play with pride and passion (Higginbottom, Guerdioura, Elokobi). He has brought the best out of existing players (Lynch, McLeary).
Sutton. We could get promoted and win the Champions League. You would still call for Cotterill to be sacked.
'Fans' like you is what is wrong with Nottingham Forest. It is 'fans' like you who heckled Arthur for no particular reason, it is 'fans' like you who demonstrated for Doughty to go. It is 'fans' like you that will be the death of Nottingham Forest.
Get behind the team and shut up

That's just something you've made up. They're decent footballers who've have done well elsewhere. Other NPC clubs would love them. Your being more than I little unfair, but we can't all be super fans that pretend everything's great when it's not.
I didn't protest against ND and I've actually supported arthur, one of the few on here that have. I never once moaned about the last manager. I always supported him 100% even when he'd behaved badly. Because I believed he was the best we were going to get and it was right for the club.
I don't rate Cotterill, I think it's best that the club sack him. If making up reasons to defend his performance that as hurt and embarrassed our club makes you a super fan you can have it.
I suggest you shut up
if we stay up, he's done a good job if we go down, he hasn't. either way though, the football is going to be pretty grim for as long as he's manager.
to be fair, he does have a decent record of keeping crap teams in the championship, that will be the best we can expect for the next few years.
There are no 'making up reaons'.
Since Cotterill has been given the chance to influence the team, by bringing in players who actually play well for the team, we have played well.
Why can't you admit this?
amd by suggesting 'fans like you', i'm referencing the negative detrimental fans who do nothing but constantly whinge and moan about everything to do about NFFC. This is how you come across.

_____________\
Because it's not true.
The longer Cotterills been here the worse the football has got. The game against Cov was awful, we were poor at Boro and yesterday was a good result.
Cotterill has brought in his players. Worse footballers than we already had at the club. But they'll run and head it all day long. That's what we've got to look forward to if he stays. It's the way his teams play. He just needed time to ship the footballers out bring some lumps in, and take up his rightful place 19th/20th/21st in the league.

Are you seriously suggesting that Arthur has been anything other than a hindrance and blight on NFFC during his time at the club?
Are you seriously suggesting that Doughty's reign at Forest has been anything other than a joke (apert fron promotion from League One - but then we should never have been down there to start with)?
It's 'fans like you' that are happy with mediocrity who are more likely to be the 'death of Nottingham Forest' with your willingness to accept second or third best.

It's how you and others like to look at it because it suits your purpose. That way you can say I moan about everything so you don't have to take any of my points on board. You can just dismiss them.
I don't think we can answer this question until we come to the end of the season and whether we are still in the championship or not.
Cotterill's tenure has been a funny one, where when he joined, we seemed to revert to nice passing football that won us 4 out of 6 games as we had seen under BD. However from the leeds game to arguably the 2nd half of the coventry game, we seemed to become a totally different team, just hoofing the ball in the air and it seemed that the early honeymoon period had just been just that. However I think the Coventry game could have seen a real change in Cotterill, because we are a team who play on the floor, and when we play like that and play 4-4-2 we gain the best out of the team, and it will allow us to produce some good displays such as we saw yesterday.
If cotterill keeps to this formula and finally realises this, then we could be a good team again, and could be a good team under cotterill, but it entirely depends on if he has taken this information to heart, and it gives me some hope that as we played 4-4-2 yesterday away from home, he might have learnt this.
But as i said I still think it is too early to tell.
If we go back to his old ways and play 1 up front all the time then yes he will be a failure as we don't play like that, and that is why we lose games.
However if maybe, just maybe he has learnt from the 1st half against coventry, and if we play the way Nottingham forest plays with Cotterill ability to motivate the team then maybe we can be a success under Cotterill and survive this year, allow him to purchase the players he wants and maybe challenge again next year if we continue to play as we have!
However it has only really been 1 and a half games where i have seen this, and so I cannot say which way it will go, but for the first time this whole season, Saturday gave me hope that yes we might stay up and yes this team still knows how to play football, and more importantly win games of football as well!
But whether or not I can say cotterill has been a success or a failure, will entirely depend on if he has taken this information on board, and learnt from his mistakes!
SBD .. there's no doubting he hasn't been a success to date, but his actions and transfer movements over the past month have undoubtedly shown that Steve Cotterill has the potential to be a good manager for NFFC. I sincerley hopes it works out for him, for the benefit of NFFC.
Judgements will be reserved, but the signs are good.
I'm sitting on the fence. I'm still backing him. Yesterday 442 was a superb choice. It was speed that beat Brum yesterday. Good football at times and battling football at other times. Having said that we could have lost the game. However, we lost on boxing day for example and we should of won.
There is a lot of hope yet that we can pull out of this mess. We are still in it and 49 points is a target we must aim for.
In reference to MA... I can't wait for the day he is no longer at our club.

Billy Davies was fantastic and awful for NFFC.
We did well under his guidance, but he created tension, touted himself for other jobs, disregarded reserves and youth, and ultimately drove a massive wedge between various factions of NFFC.
I personally am glad to see the back of him. The fact he is still out of employment speaks volumes!
