Not sure how that correlates with the rest of the footballing world and why it would/should mean we should have been winning International tournaments.
---------------------
Because the success of Liverpool suggests a lot of their Brits were World-class. So if they could win the European Cup, why could those players not win for England?
And the fact most teams contained british players blows away the theory that cutting down the number of foreigners in the Premiership will improve Englands chances.
England vs Scotland World Cup final
It would have helped if the Scot's could have gotten out of their qualifying group... even once.
Nothing has changed at international level. The home nation teams are just as g@sh as they have always been. Scotland had some magnificent players, especially in 74 -78 and 82. The truth is they blew it and at times bottled it.
Unfortunately, it's the British way
just the way it is,
i would say Best,Giggs and Rush are all outstanding players but how far did that get Wales, or Messi who most say is quality and the best but does nothing for Argentina or Ronaldo come to think of it with Portugal.
remember when you had good players in Bruce,Pallister,Keane etc didn't make any dif to the national teams either, still poor as a nation, even though individually probably as good as any one else in the world.

Look at somne of the players in the Welsh teams history, Rush, Hughes......Neville Southall...
The players you mention cut across several home nations. Had they all been English or Scottish for example, then a case could certainly be argued that England (or Scotland) should have performed better in International tournaments.
Malmo and Buges got to European cup finals too, doesnt mean Sweden or Belgium were world beaters, just that the European Cup cant be compared to the Champions League as it is now.
I'd really like to see a GB & Ireland team take on a Benelux team that would be awesome
Are DevonshireSpur and DeepSpace the same person?

Malmo and Bruges had good cup runs and go to finals. It till happens ocassionally now, recent examples being Bayer Levekusen, Arsenal and Chelsea.
You could make a reasonable side out of United's British players
Amos
Smalling Jones Rio Evans
Scholes Clevs Carrick Young
Rooney Welbeck
10 of them are English too and most play first XI regularly

People seem to forget that players back then didn't normally leave there home country, so a club in Belgium or Sweden could be made up of the international squad. For example Bruges could have to equivalent of
Kompany, Vermaelan, Vertonghen, Dembele, Defour, Felliani, Witsel, Hazard, De Bruyne and Lukaku playing for them. People should get this small fact into their heads. Remember back to the big teams back then in Europe and often, you basically had international teams playing in one club.

Could make a very good team out of Liverpool's. Does show however how a couple of foreigners thrown into the mix, gives you that bit extra.

Personally I think that the Champions League is a watered down version of the European Cup.
Back in those days you actually had to either have won your own League or be the defending Champions to enter.
Back then if you finished 4th in your League you wouldn't even qualify for the UEFA Cup.
Liverpool won 4 of their European Cups when our own League was at it's strongest + when the European Cup was at it's strongest.
rarely have I seen such tosh...
England Scotland indeed...
Different era of football then
You might as well compare that to Mathews's day
Good grief

Wait, it's not the same as Matthew's day?
No of course its not, as back then....
Oh.....I see what you've done there
Champions League V's European Cup debate ....... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
"Liverpool won 4 of their European Cups when our own League was at it's strongest + when the European Cup was at it's strongest."
Do you really really believe that ?
Competition was better as you had to have been champions of your country to have got in, and couldn't afford to have an off day or you was out.
It was certainly harder to win the comp back then than it is now days.
Now days with this league format you can rest your best players after 3 -4 games if you won them, never had that luxury before as was straight knock out, and it is only so if a top team has an off day it is designed so they should still go through.
Still an achievement to win, don't get me wrong but i think it is more geared to making Eufa money with glamour ties than club pride personally.
Fair comments
Can't remember if the old comp was seeded...?
no it wasn't,
straight drawn out the hat joby, could get anybody that was what was scary about it.

Count how many European trophies were won by English clubs in the 70’s and 80’s, then count how many since the 90’s.
No contest. The English league was irrefutably stronger back then.
It takes a twist in logic to conclude that it was because the whole of Europe was sheite, (including the likes of Beckenbauer, Platini, Cruyff, and Maradona).
