Carrick praise

the source is tainted but it is a very good question. just about every national team has a version of carrick in it that allows them to succeed, yet the team constantly underperforming refuses to use him.

good for united though, he stays fit and rested, though i am sure he would want to play for his country.

He doesn't run around like a headless chicken or have his name in the media for every wrong reason. That is purely why he doesn't get into the England squad. Shame really, however their loss and our gain!

'Finally someone has acknowledged how important Carrick has been for us this season'

Been said all season from I have seen. Just because the media don't say it doesn't mean most of OT doesn't.

'He doesn't run around like a headless chicken or have his name in the media for every wrong reason. That is purely why he doesn't get into the England squad.'

Or maybe he had an 18 month/ 2 year spell where he wasn't playing nearly as well?

Have never rated Pearce as a manager, I hope this is the only game he's in charge for!

Well, I'm guessing the 18 month you say he was playing poorly, in the 5 years he's been at Man United, with this being his 6th is the only reason why he's managed only 11 international appearances since joining Man United?

Also, my opinion is that he never played poorly for 18 months. 2 years. His work was just taken for granted! If he was really playing poorly for 18 months / 2 years, I highly doubt Sir Alex would have played him 45 games per season.

Only reason people have begun appreciating his work, is simply due to how terrible we were at the beginning of the season, where we had nobody protecting the back 4, and leaking goals. Our attack managed to hide it for the first handful of games by outscoring their opponents, but after the Man City trashing, everyone finally opened their eyes!

He had been receiving a lot of plaudits abroad, even from Xavi himself.

hehe... germany builds a formidable international team from their u-21 team, we manage to put ideas in their head managers will need to erase from their heads to succeed.

pearce really is awful too.

I too doubt he had such a poor spell, the trouble is people look for scapegoats, Ronaldo and Tevez were sold and so we had loads of money we didn't spend, our headless chicken had flown the coup, Chelsea won the title, and then United won it back with a less than vintage season. Result is; Glazer's are ruining United, Fergie is their puppet, Ronaldo's not been replaced, should have kept headless chicken because he always looked like he worked hard and played with....... wait for it........ PASSION (I've grown to hate that word), and we so OBVIOUSLY need something in midfield because Carrick is useless. Actual meaning; lack of headless chicken leads to less expressive player being hounded.

As has been said; Fergie (sorry; Glazier's Puppet) knows best!!!

Sorry but he was not playing at the level he currently is last season or the season prior. He wasn't playing badly, but he wasn't at the level he has been this season.

He has started to impose himself on games again, make more forward runs, more direct passes and getting himself about the midfield a bit more.

He was great against Chelsea last season in the CL and at OT, other than that, please tell me 5 games he played as well as he has been the last 6-8 weeks.

Again, I'm not a basher saying he was pants, he was decent during those periods, but this has been his best season since 2009.

Barry is the same for us, hugely intelligent and underrated player, although dare I say it a tad more consistent that Carrick who does seem to have an off couple of months every season.

Agreed Pearce is an idiot. Nearly ruined Richards early career by putting him at CB (which I fear, looking at the squad, he plans to do again) and in the U-21s picked a squad full of trolls with Walcott upfron on his own. The man epitomises everything wrong with British coaches.

Great article

Those saying his form has been panta for 18 months to 2 years are wrong

Everything Carrick did wrong, which wasn't much, was magnified 10 fold

Giggs could give the ball away 10 times and it would go unnoticed, Carrick does it once and everyone screams.

He gets robbed of the ball v Valencia that leads to a goal and suddenly it happens all the time

He got chastised for the missplaced pass in the FA Cup semi yet hardly anyone said a word about the fact it was VDS who had sliced it to Carrick accidentaly and no way was Carrick expecting it

It's these rare occasions that get magnified for some reason when it comes to Carrick

Like someone said earlier, he has not been pants for 2 years at all. SAF would not have been playing hiom if that was the case and this top form he is in now, he has been in for at least the last 12 months

alwasy puts a shift in, regularly covers the most ground, and with Carrick, you know it is not headless chicken movement.

I think Barry is an ok player but how he is in the England squad ahead of Carrick is a mystery to me

Who has said anybody has been pants for 18 months?

I said he hasn't been as good as this season, or in 08 & 09.

If you think he has been playing at the same level for the last 5 years you are deluded because I can't think of a player in world football bar Messi and Ronaldo capable of that.

Macca, matter of opinion

The difference in role and quality isn't that different at all, and according to the last few national managers Barry has been the best option. People remember certain displays for England where he's looked slow, or given one or two passes away (like they do with Carrick apparently) and dismiss him without watching him week in and week out.

Ask any City fan and they'll say he should be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Carrick deserves a place in the England squad, but infront of who? thats the tough bit.

Sorry mate I should have made that clearer. I didn't mean people on this thread, I was talking in general.
