It would be great to have Zola back at Chelsea in whatever capacity.

Yet another former Chelsea man with his heart at the club would be great.

Really? Zola? for DOF.

Personally I cant see an up and coming manager like him wanting to sit in the boardroom and do whatever DOF's do instead of being out there on the pitch coaching training players. Maybe could do a job. Who knows.IS he good at scouting? How many contacts has he got around the world. This is the type of requirements you need for a DOF role dont you.

while like all Chelsea supporters I love the little genius and would like to see him back at the club what exactley does a director of football do?????

Arneson was in charge of developing the youth (great job there frank) but not sure Zola would be ideal for that.

I would love to have Zola back at the Bridge in some capacity but like a few other people have said im not certain a DoF role is for him just yet.

I would love him at the club, but what is involved in the DoF role? Not sure if he is suited to it, but I would love him to be part of this club again

i agree to a certain extent with people here that maybe zola even though he is a legend here might not be the right man for the job and if roman does appoint him any idea what might be roman's reason behind that??

posted on 30/6/11

My first thoughts are what exactly does the role entail and why Is Zola the right man for the role?

He is my favourite all time player, i absolutely love the guy, but this is starting to smack of the club trying to kiss the fans a-se!

Love Zola, would love him back in a capacity. But as director of football is NOT his role. He needs to be on the training ground, spreading his knowledge and enthusiasm throughout the team, especially the youngsters. Can you imagine for example what he could pass on to Neymar for example.

The DOF is generally placed higher up the chain n is responsible for indentifying and negoiating with transfer targets - that's why it's better suited to Guus, or even Emenalo as he used to be a scout. Sticking Zola upstairs like that would be a total waste.

the more you think about, the more this sounds like garbage. zola? negotiating player transfers and wages etc. come on.

Why garbage ??

Zola is a football man through and through and is well known around the world. His heart is firmly at Chelsea unlike a mercenary like Arnesen.

I think he´d be a great Director.

Garbage purely because its wasting what talent he may have. He's not a suit man. He's the type to get on the pitch and train youngsters. Hiddink is more suited to DOF role. He's more experienced in the game. Been in it for decades. Knows ins and outs and wont be taken for a ride by anybody.

Firstly you are assuming that Hiddink wants the Director´s job which it looks like he doesn´t.

Secondly I feel you are underestimating Zola as he is an experienced football man who´s been round the block a few times. I don´t think he´s going to get taken for a ride by anyone.

Also Zola knows DiMatteo well so would still have a very close link with the training aspect at Chelsea.

Who´s to say that Zola won´t be at many of the training sessions with the players ?

My bet is that he would and would be a very hands on Director of Football - unlike Arsensen who was largely anonimous.

Zola is too nice and Naive to become a DOF

--------------------------------------------------------

Naive ??!!

Just because he´s a nice guy it doesn´t make him naive.

Seriously I haven´t such twadlle for a while.

Having Zola as the DOF would surely be good for the style of football at the club. I mean the man would try and get the future of our club playing attacking football, which cannot be a bad thing.

Just to clarify, the DOF is for the future, the manager is for the here and now. The likes of Fergie and Wenger are both, even if they aren't given the title. All the DOF is trying to do is to get your team to play a certain way in X amount of year, so its important that they are pulling in the same direction as the manager.

West Ham Experience tells me different - sorry.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

What exactly about the West Ham experience tells you different ??

Is it the fact that Zola had West Ham playing entertaining football while installing a good team spirit within the club ??

Or was it the fact that West Ham dropped like a stone after they foolishly sacked Zola ?

I suggest you are the one being a tad naive.

The points you raise highlight my point entirely, it is not an attack on Zola but more about the naivity of Zola regarding the people that he was working for - you obviously do not get the point i am trying to make.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Can you be more specific then please ?
