Funnily enough before a year ago bar NAS and Mobb Deep, the kind of stuff I liked were the likes of Jay-Z, Kanye, Asher Roth(have to admit I still love 'Lark on my Go-Kart', 50 Cent, Fabulous.
Eminem got me into rap, nd tbf the eminem show is pretty good. Outkast, WuTang etc are just on a different level.
De La Soul....

Dilla beat too.
The problem with Eminem is he uses the same tricks again and again and it got boring quickly. Soon got bored of the format ie a popish chart track taking digs at pop stars, followed by a hardish personal track and digs at his wife.
After his second album it became boring, although he still made stand out tracks like "Lose Yourself" and "Til I Collapse"
The Bad Meets Evil album was good though. Royce da 5"9 is someone I have always enjoyed listening to.
Royce Da 5"9
Eminem is overrated.
Agreed, on Relapse every song sounds the same. Just with a slightly different chorus.
Do love without me though, hilarious song.
Saint, I love the song sampled in that..

When the revolution come, you can see me on the front line
Firing my gun, standing right beside my son
If I go, it's understood that I stood for something
When my whole life, they told me, I was good for nothing
I was raised by the stray dogs, blazed off, layed off
Breaking laws, graveyard shifting every day war
Focus now, notice how, things change, soldier
I remain the same, I'm older now, I embrace the pain
I blame the struggle, nearly drove me insane
Thought I lost my head, til my brethren told me the same
No tears for the reaper, I've buried bout a thousand
In graffiti, "rest in peace" sprayed off throughout the housing
I tried to stay civilized, the hood's a prison inside
The only difference is the doors don't slide
Still we trapped in the animal cage, cuz we got animal ways
So we react, with the animal rage
And my séx is real, weapons peel, cheddar's the deal
Seen the depths of hell, now I stare, death in the grill
From the slave ships, to today's bricks, same shít
I'm awake, to the wickedness, and one, with the pavement

What a classic great song
NY state of mind has such a good beat, best on the album.
==============
Great song, The World is Yours is my fave track on the album though.
But I don't know much about hip hop tbf, only started listening to it recently. Common, Nas, Jay-Z, Pharoahe Monch, Talib Kweli, Kanye West, NWA, Dre, Outkast are the main ones I've started listening too. Still got a lot of learning to do
No you're doing VERY WELL. That list is great.
You just need to start listening to ATCQ and Mos Def.
Common, Nas, Jay-Z, Pharoahe Monch, Talib Kweli, Kanye West, NWA, Dre, Outkast
===========
Not bad places to start.
Try a bit of Wu Tang after.
But beware, Saint will go mad as you haven't mentioned A Tribe Called Quest or Mos Def!!
Cool cool, I'll have to give them a listen
Saint, what 10 albums would you recommend to someone who is new to rap?
Mine...
36 Chambers
Illmatic
The Chronic
Low End Theory
Only Built For Cuban Link...
ATLiens
Bizarre Ride II Tha Pharcyde
Yo! Bum Rush The Show
3 Feet High And Rising
Straight Outta Compton or Efil4Zaggin or Amerikkkas Most Wanted.
Think that would give them an idea of the diverse nature of hip-hop and would give them an idea of where to go next.
