Hip-Hop superstar Eminem recently spoke with former Juice Crew member Masta Ace on his Shade 45 radio show, to talk about the Brooklyn emcee’s influence.

Helping celebrate the 20th anniversary of independent record label Delicious Vinyl, Em called in to discuss remixing Ace’s ’93 record “Slaughtahouse.” Released on RMXXOLOGY, the multi-platinum selling rapper admitted the difficulty he encountered updating the hip-hop classic.

“There’s a lot of classic joints on that record, but there’s also, I mean, that record in itself was a fúcking, was a classic and—I just got in there and started making beats,” Em explained. “I was so used to the original beat, you know what I mean, and then remixing it was kinda like, we tried a bunch of beats to it and just tried a gang of shít to it and was like ‘Nah, it don’t sound right.’ I was so locked in to the original, but we finally, I think, hit something.” [Listen Here]

Em also detailed the hip-hop influence Ace had on him while growing up in Detroit.

“When I heard Masta Ace, like every time I would listen to him he would make me wanna rap,” he confessed. “When I was younger, I had a job at Little Caesars Pizza and I used to walk around with my headphones on and that album, Take A Look Around and Slaughtahouse, played like non-stop in my headphones.”

Always full of respect, but Em had many influences growing up, he was always trying to learn from different artists.

That's one thing about him, never really brags about his success like most hip hop artists, Royce was saying how he wanted to get Em boasting in the studio, always focusing on the art of word play. A natural freestyler.
