Gally was poor and will surely be replaced in the team by Marshall as soon as the young lad's found his feet - a fantastic goal today gives some hope that he's starting to do just that. In truth our delivery from set pieces was criminally bad all game - Gally, Danns and Konchesky all consistently failed to beat the first man. That said, the latter two had good games so will come in for less criticism.
Kasper's been immense this season, but he hardly covered himself in glory today. He was at fault for both of Torres' goals (should've come for the first, no man on the post for the second which is the keeper's job to organise) and could perhaps have done better with the fifth goal too. Again, hard to criticise him based on what a job he's done for us this season but I don't think he comes out of today with too much credit.
I thought we actually played pretty well - what's so infuriating is the two goals conceded from corners and I'm sure NP will be going ape about that fact. When you come up against a class outfit, the least you can do is get your basics right and not slip up at set pieces. It's a shame because for much of that game we stood toe to toe with Chelsea and 3-2 would've been a much fairer and more representative scoreline.
Just bloody typical that we'd get Chelsea on the one day of the season Torres decided to turn up too - involved in all five goals in the end.
I'm sorry but I must disagree with you - I don't think it was a 'shocking performance' at all. Yes, some of our players didn't have particularly great games but look at where they were & who they were playing.
I thought it a great game of entertaining football which, of course, would have been much better if we'd won! Well done to all the players and the lucky ones who got tickets to go.
You make it sound like only the 4 players you mentioned had good games. I personally don't think Kasper had a great game but what about Marshall's fantastic goal? What about Beckford? Dyer did well. The team as a whole kept on going & didn't give up - the Leicester City spirit.
Your point was fairly valid until you called it a shocking performance. We'll have to agree to disagree
I just didn't feel that we gave it a good enough go, it was like we were afraid of the superstars.
Simply not good enough as far as inventiveness goes and the defence wa awful again!
Purely my opinion and in sure some wil agree an disagree and that's what 606 is all about.
I'll stand by the fact that Gallagher is a waste of time.
Marshall should take his place now going forward.
And why oh why was Howard on the bench?
I bet the Chelsea defence were quaking in there boots.
Time to bring in some new blood.
Dyer is too 1 dimensional,
Not defending Gallagher but the first goal was 100% Bamba's poor defending of the corner!!
I thought they did ok against a team on their game, you seem to forget this was Chelsea we played today, I'm sure they've had less opposition from many Premier League Clubs this season.
Didn't Birmingham get a replay?
No imagination & no ideas.
Pure hard work won't get you anywhere without a bit of a spark.
I agree with l'stone fox we were pretty good beckford played well as did konchesky and Morgan. We just played a stronger team we wanted championship tome on the ball and didn't get it gave the ball away too easily and paid for it but in general I'm proud
It took too long before someone properly tested Cech and for the first fifteen minutes or so, City looked good passing the ball around. Chelsea during this time were hoofing the ball up through midfield and the flaws in our defence were evident.
We were also sadly lacking a good corner-kick taker. Every one I saw was atrocious.
We need to sell the following...
Gallagher
Bamba
Dyer
Howard
Wellens
We were playing Chelsea not a Championship team or a Norwich.
On that basis we did well and all put in 100% effort for the fans.
As for corners - What's changed today compared to the last 5 or so years.
Well done fans at the ground and the team including Gallagher you all turned up against a motivated £150 million Chelsea.
Be PROUD Leicester
It sounded like the defence was the main problem again together with a poor Gallagher performance. Our lack of pace and dominance at the back are really costing us. Nigel Pearson, being the sort of no nonsense centre-back ought to be able to sort this in the summer. Whatever combination we use doesn't seem to gel. Presumably, Morgan as his 1 million buy is likely to be on the team sheet but he needs the right sort of player alongside him.
Well done though to Wellens, Danns, Dyer and Beckford who seemed to play well and to Marshall for his wonder goal.
Sticking to the point, another limp performance from Gallagher. For a so-called dead ball specialist, his corners were awful. it was no coincidence that we improved when he went off. Don't get better soon.
For a start you have to acknowledge that it was Chelsea. Their squad is a world apart from ours and the chances are we were always going to lose.
Having said that you have to look at the performance as a whole and generally I was a bit disappointed we didn't make them fight harder for this win. We have a soft underbelly and teams can overrun us and this has been a problem for us for years and not just today. Offensively we were ok, but defensively (and I mean the whole team in this) we were poor.
I've not been the biggest fan of Neil Danns in the past, but today he was undoubtedly our best player. Honourable mentions also go to Nugent, Beckford and Konchesky. I also thought that Dyer had a reasonable game and Marshall's goal was excellent.
Schmeichel had a rare off day. I believe he should have come for the ball for Chelsea's first goal and, like someone else has mentioned, was at fault for both corners. SSL looked out of position and Morgan and Bamba were exposed by the movement of Torres and others.
The worst two players for me were, indeed, Gallagher and also Wellens. We can't really afford to have a player who has a wonder game every 5 or 6 games, but is poor for the rest (i.e. Gally). Wellens sometimes looks like he's in his forties rather than his thirties. I've defended him in the past as I don't really think we've replaced him with anyone better, but he doesn't look capable of playing 2 games in a week anymore. Fitness clearly looks an issue and our loss of midfield control is often the key to putting pressure on our defence who end up carrying the can for our poor performances.
We can't be too tough on the team for losing to Chelsea in a performance, which did have high endeavour; but if we aren't tighter against Blackpool on Wednesday then we might not be so forgiving.
Good call Joby, we should all remember you defend from the front & attack from the back. we've got to start playing as a team not individuals, don't like picking players out for blame. you win together & lose together. it was Chelsea we played yesterday & at the minute we're a world away from them, so leys not lose the plot we could have done better & it could have been worse, be we still love LEICESTER CITY forever.
Gallagher is the epitomee of this current Leicester side. A player who clearly has some ability but who shirks tackles, shows little or no commitment to the cause and who leaves his team mates beside and behind him totally isolated. We can't keep having him in the team on the basis he might be world-class for 5 minutes per game, because his contribution to the team for the vast majority of the game is non-existent. Impact sub at best now for us.
(I wish he'd done what his missus wanted and stayed at home on Mothers Day....)
Had his wife actually ever said that I would agree with you. Sadly she never did and yet again you are bringing up a misinterpreted (by you) TWITTER comment from a WAG into this forum!
Re-arrange these words:
in, cheek, tongue
I have mentioned this on many occasions, our midfield is our main weekness! although of late Danns has been excellent, we miss the ball winner and a player who can distrubute passes......
Our midfield is just too easy to run through, it provides absolutely no cover for the defence. Danns has been the best of a bad bunch. We need to see Drinkwater and Marshall for Wellens and Gallagher very soon
