If Cesc & Nasri go, should Wenger follow?

Hey if Wenger wants to rebuild the Invincibles, that's fine by me. The problem with a squad overhaul and rebuilding, etc is that we are already approaching pre-season training and rather than settling in new players, we are trying to keep our better players from leaving (whereas we can't get rid of the garbage). I look at our fixture list at the start of the season. 2 CL ties, a trip to Newcastle, matches against Pool and United, all before we are even in September. We need time to prepare for those matches and we should be bringing in players now to help them prepare, but that isn't what we are doing, we are trying to hold onto our best players.

I just think this season is a massive one for Wenger and if he doesn't get things right then the fans will finally turn on him. And he isn't going to do himself any favors if we are out of the title race (and even the CL) before they have even started!

If somehow we're able to get rid of the deadwood then we'll be looking to sign atleast 6,7 players this summer. When has that ever happened under Arsene?

I'm hoping that the average players we are currently being linked with our merely squad players and that Wenger's aims for the first team are much higher.

Looking at the fixtures, this is the first time in as long as I can remember where so many of the big teams have awkward starts.

Usually form in August and September doesn't matter, but lMO if Arsenal don't pick up enough points in the opening 2 months, they could soon be out the title race before Santa is coming down the chimney, and as BatManU says, the fans could turn. Particularly as none of Arsenals opening home games (bar Liverpool) are particularly difficult. If they are 7-8 games in and drawing 0-0 at home to say... Swansea things could get nasty IMO

The ultimate point Batman is that most likely these players are gone, so where do we go from here? The only positive outlook that I can gleam from all of this is that we do rebuild our side in the mould of the invincibles and recapture the athletic, mentally tough, hard-tackling, counter-breaking and movement-mad style that made us such a force before.

Nasri and Fabregas are outstanding talents in their own right, but don't epitomise what it was that made us such a good team back way when.

I appreciate that some flair is required to compliment such a team, and that activity on the transfer front must be hastened now. But there could yet be a silver lining on the cloud above us atm.

i'm not even sure what players would be good enough for the team that we would be able to attract? especially replacement for cesc. who is there that would want to come to us, who is anywhere near his quality? granted there may be a few wingers we could sign to replace nasri, but most would take months to settle into the premierleague.

we need to keep hold of nasri in my opinion. i know a lot of people are beginning to hate him, but no one knows the situation and he still has a chance to show loyaly towards us. he's also a quality player, even if he had a dip in form toward the end of the season.

I think losing your best players to your rivals is an admission you can't compete with them. It's happened to us a lot with Berba and Carrick and this is why we're so desperate to keep hold of Bale and Modric.

I think it'd be sad to see Nasri go to City/United because IMO last season Arsenal had a better sqaud than them and it was their lack of bottle that cost them. I really do think it will be a battle between arsenal, spurs and liverpool for fourth next year whilst city, chelsea and united contest the title.

Leverkusen have said that 14M would be enough for Vidal, which is a bargain! He's of the Essien mold.

He's exactly what you described AuHasard. Strong, athletic, hardtackling box to box midfielder who has an excellent passing range.

If you also buy Mata to replace Nasri - his buy out clause is 20M. Would be superb piece of business as he is one of the best wingers in the world.

Gervinho will replace Walcott on the other side once his inevitable signing is complete.

I don't think Wenger's going to change the system now. He
knows that system won;t be successful in Europe and thus only the personnel will be changed.

Like your suggestions Rhone. I wouldn't want direct replacements for Fab/Nasri if they are going. It's time for us to beef up again. Grrrrrr.

Do you believe that? When we came back against Barcelona at the Emirates, our football was more reminiscent of our invincible days than it was of the tip-tappy style that has become our trademark style.

I still believe we should have won the CL in 03/04, but Chelsea to their credit upped their game and magnificently matched us in both legs.

Even if we do keep the same formation, we can still opt for a new breed of player in the transfer window who will give us a physical edge once again.

Yes i think all our current formation needs is a physical edge and some injection of pace but we still need someone in the Cesc mould to make it work. Nasri needs to replaced with Mata or Hazard, both are more direct and technically very good.

I wouldn't mind if Vidal replaced Song in midfield also as I don't think he's mobile enough.

Poor rationale in most of your article.
So what does Arsene do about Cesc. keep a disgrutled captain at the club and see his value plummet year on year? And Nasri/Clichy? Approve a wage of £100K a week for both and run the club aground?
We have an excellent manager and need to trust him to do what is right for arsenal taking everything into consideration. We would hire the players we need to replace these want-aways and shall be competitive next season.
Football is a very funny game!
