A small part of me wants to see a poch team with

James
Fofana
Nkunku
Lavia

That's a core right there

I would take Thiago Silva as player manager over Poch.

If I go through the names linked:

I think these coaches would reject us...

Amorim - will want to be a manager, not a puppet
Michel - has his eyes on bigger jobs (City eg)
Ancelotti - pretty charmed life at Madrid, and our squad doesn't suit his talents at all which are coaxing the best out of stars and older players in quite a hands off way

These are ones the board won't go for

Tuchel - no chance they're swallowing their pride imo
Mourinho - sorry Oscar, but it's a vibes hire, and I think even our owners would see that

Then there are ones I don't rate

De Zerbi - jury out on how much of his success is coaching or building off Potter's foundations before being found out like Martinez at Everton
Thomas Frank - Brentford's football is dull
Southgate - please no

Then there are ones I have no idea about...

Flick - great at Bayern but that was a while ago
Xavi - don't watch Barca enough

I think this points to the fact Poch has a good chance of staying if we finish 7th or higher which is still possible.

Oh it is but is where in my books Pooch has failed so miserably, but also won. I think he laid all his eggs in the Nkunku basket, and that injury fooked him and instead of adapting he sort of done nothing and tried to wait it out. However, I am not certain if we get Palmer without the Nkunku injury, I feel he was bought as Nkunkus back up.

The fact that Liverpool have gone for Slot makes me think there's not that many great options out there.

I'd be interested to see what Poch can do with a fully fit squad and a decent striker up top.

Given how bad he's been this season, he probably doesn't deserve that chance.

Thomas Frank is interesting, supposedly he was on Pool's list.

I would take him over Poch, but not over De Zerbi, Flick or Tuchel.

With Xavi staying at Barca one more year, which was rumoured to be Flick's destination, I am wondering if he's actually the most likely. Would also cost us nothing in terms of an exit fee.

De Zerbi's clause is reportedly around £10m, and I can see the owners being reluctant to shop in Brighton's store again for fear of looking stupid.

Looks like 7th will be conference league - that's basically a battle between us, West Ham and Newcastle.

I do wonder if the board will see that as sufficient - if we finish there.

I believe the athletic did a piece a while back showing that, due to UEFA's stricter financial rules, it actually is worse for us financially to play in the conference league than not.

To be fair we need to sell a lot of players imo regardless.

I am actually more keen to get the dead wood out than bring people in.

How many goals have we missed out on this season from players not passing to a player in a better position

The only part of the match I saw was last 10 mins of the first half, in between the support and headline band. Saw Jackson’s header and the Villa second goal.

This is why you should not watch us. Thankfully you didn’t watch the second half

Their GK today was a clear downgrade on Martinez

Shame Palmer hit it straight at him. If he had been forced to dive either side I doubt he would have stopped it.

Would it be unreasonable to suggest that incorrect VAR decisions cost us more than they benefit us.

I can’t tell if I’m being biased or if it’s legitimately true.

It’s not correct VAR decisions that have annoyed me the most - it’s non-decisions by VAR. Fouls on players that were missed by the ref, but not drawn to his attention by VAR because they didn’t want the ref to have to make a hard decision.

Tried the Huel chocolate flavour bottle today. Tasted better than expected. Might actually have it for lunch on some days, especially considering how expensive other options near my office are.

So what’s everyone’s thoughts about Poch now? Were we impressed by his second half tactics? That’s the first time in a while I remember us being so dominant in the second half. We are truly an inconsistent team, but are we moving in the right direction?

Personally I think we need a goalkeeper, at least one central defender, a left back, a left winger, and a striker. And we need to sell a lot of players. But do we really need to get rid of Poch? He’s obviously imperfect, but maybe he deserves another chance next season?

Again, not his tactics - we done nothing different, other than showed a bit of urgency. We just managed to score a couple of the chances. Overall play was artic and larthagic for 89 minutes, and honestly pretty hard to watch when all the attacking players arent really doing much. Biggest improvement was Moises today - look good when ever he moved forward, and some good tackles. Reminded me a little of Rambo today. So nice burst forwards and breaking down their play

Huh - ok. That wasn’t my view of the game. I thought he pushed Cucurella into a much more central position - basically on the left of midfield alongside Caicedo. It gave Mudryk more room out wide, which admittedly he did nothing with - but I think it helped us to keep total control. I agree about Caicedo though - he looked very good.

posted 1 week, 6 days ago

But there lays the problem or 2

Imo that was just Cucu doing his headless chicken impression, he always wonders inside, I have never seen a left who is never in the left hand position and constantly leaves us open. Villa were poor to exploit this, and Vs Arsenal he didn't have time to wonder as he was always man marking Saka (and done a bloody good job of it imo). Secondly if that was the case why did we we primarily attack down the right the majority of the 2h? And Muds was barely able to do anything due to no support and are players just wondering around while making almost no attempt to make space......and this has been our attack for the entire season, clueless except the occasional piece of magic or actually latching onto a mistake
