Old Firm build up

Based on form and home advantage I'd say we should be slight favourites.

Depends if we manage to break any players this week but it's encouraging than we have had a few return to fitness during the break.

Agree I make us favourites, great to see Sima get some minutes, Yilmaz being fit will be huge if he can make it.

I think this is a game for Sterling in the midfield, could be th type of game that is perfect for him.

Would take a draw all day....... can't see us winning it even with Calmac, CCV & Hatate on the park cos Rodgers hasn't got a fvcking clue how to get the best out of his resources

We've looked a bit better the last few games (as in we are actually passing the ball well) but I would still give Rangers the edge in terms of who's favourite mainly down to it being at Ibrox.

Then again I thought we'd get thumped last time we went there and look how that panned out (yes I know it was Beale and not Clement, but still).

Hatate being back for us is massive, makes such a difference to the way we play. Big call for us is who does McGregor come in for if he's ready to play, either Iwata or O'Riley...
Despite how well he's played recently I think I'd bench Iwata given MOR has more experience in these games, hopefully bring on Iwata to shore it up when we are out of sight

I didn't know McGregor was a doubt for the game. Big miss for you if he doesn't make it.

Although I feel like he is always a doubt before these games and is miraculously always fine

He plays 65 games a season. He is never a doubt and very rarely out

Think we will need to win this. Sets a dangerous precedent otherwise given how the first two games went

posted on 1/4/24

Yup, we definitely need to win it or we risk being a busted flush, so a draw for me

I think this is the game where our luck runs out.

I’d take your back wheels in and ev for a draw at the moment, as much as we probably need the win.

But Hatate back is massive for us.

Eh, I take it you’re unaware he’s missed the last 6 games for club and country? Got crocked in the first half when we scudded Dundee in late Feb, and was in a moonboot after that. Suspect he’ll start, but like Hatate he won’t be near match fit.

It's surely going to be a very tough game for us. Obviously I want us to win but I wouldn't be that unhappy with a draw.

posted on 1/4/24

I think we do need to win it.... I think we need at least a 3 point gap going into that last OF... we dont want to be having to go to celtic after the split needing to win it.

Yeah I was unaware of that. Might surprise you but I don't really keep up to date with Celtic players

Maybe refrain from posting pash about a guy who’s played more minutes than just about anybody in Europe in the last 6-7 seasons then?

A lot of players coming back for both teams by looks of it

See this as must win for us being at home, and Celtic not having players at their best. As much as our players on way back are important, likes of CCV, McGregor are more important for Celtic.

you mean pash comments like your last one?!

I think it was last year he was something like 18th most minutes played in europe might have been the year before. pretty sure Tav has similar amount of minutes played, prob even more

I think it's a must-win for us being at home, but history says Celtic will be favourites. There's been enough times in the recent past where we've been the form team only for Celtic to do us on our own patch and take the wind out our sails.

Did I say THE most? Nope. Did I say last season? Nope. I do know he played in every competitive fixture for club and country during 2023 though, and had the most minutes in the world a few seasons before that. Basically my point was he plays a hell of a lot of football, in response to the throwaway bollox that he’s always a doubt then miraculously plays. Happy?

Rodger's needs to show us something different in this game. Grab the game by the balls !!!
I will take a point now……but if we get it right we should win!

Kuhn could be a dark horse in terms of being the big difference/ match winner.

He's been brilliant the last 2/3 games and hopefully continues that form at the weekend.

Either that or he does a James Forrest special and offers sh*t all at Ibrox

Think Rangers will win and being brutally honest it wouldn’t really upset me in the slightest.

Of course I want the win but if we somehow manage to take this league after the way our signing policy has been rolled out over the last two seasons; I’d hope it would rush in some serious change were we to lose this league.

Been pretty bloody awful the vast majority of this seasons and the fact we are still in this is ridiculous.

Agreed. ‘Big Phil’ should be ashamed of himself.

Losing the league to Celtic at the moment would be like losing it to Neil Lennon.

Home team wins it for me. We’ve upset that stat once already this season and I don’t expect it to happen again. Not in front of such an extra-large crowd.

GK Butland
LB
CB
CB Goldson
RB Tavernier
CM Lundstram
CM Diomande
LW
AM
RW
FW Dessers

Those 6 are nailed on to start. The rest of our team depends on fitness and injuries.

LB - Should be Yilmaz if he's recovered, could be Barasic if he's not and he's fit enough himself or even Sterling.

CB - Clement seems solid on Souttar so it will be him, I would be picking Balogun for his pace.

AM - Cantwell has the jersey at the moment but Lawrence would be my pick given he will turn up and Cantwell is hit and miss.

LW - Clement probably chooses Silva. Sima not fit enough, Matondo scored a great goal at the weekend but he's never done it from starting, better to use him off the bench against tired legs.

RW - If Roofe could play a full game I would have him playing on the right or ahead of Dessers but he can't so I'd pick Sterling if he's not selected at full back over McAusland.

FW - Unfortunately it has to be Dessers given the lack of fit options.

Largely what I’d expect but I prefer Souttar to Balogun as well.

I’d be tempted to try Silva on the right wing to get both Lawrence and Cantwell in the team. Kind of game Silva should do well in with more space. Would prefer Sterling at left back over Barisic.
