Pretty much forced to keep him given his value will be shot. Also as poor as he looks sometimes, on occasion he does look good so it may be he settles next season.

Probably also a shout to go and get the best free agent keeper on the market on reasonable wages because there's a good chance he ends up number 1 by the end of next season. Rui Patricio perhaps?

Too many issues in the squad to solve in 1 window and the issue with moving him on means he's near the bottom of that list.

We've covered this ad nauseam. Again, it's on the club for abdicating this responsibility to a coach. Had there been "structure" this abdication of a key and fundamental responsibility does not take place and is retained by the DoF / TD.

Have to agree with bloodred, DDG was a great shot stopper but if you have a look at the stats he never had to face half the amount of shots Onana has? Now I've said Onana has had his issues, no debate but I'd like to see him behind a better, more settled defense and a better more organised CM set up if he is still the talk of the town after games then fair enough but I'm just interested to see how he'd do,obvs imo only

Combining the thoughts above with his track record over several years (including in the CL) I think Onana is probably substantially better than he looked this season, and that any flaws in his game that have been magnified this season ought to be far less exposed as we build a team that is able to defend and to build possession even to a league average level.

I don’t think he’s good enough with his feet to have the made the change, but we’ll see. Most goalkeepers new to Prem need a bit of time to show their full potential.

He’s a big downgrade on ddg, but he’s who we’ve got for now.

He's a really poor keeper.
Weird technique, weird diving style. His confidence does not match his low ability. Bit like Antony in that regard.
Isn't it great how everyone has such differing opinions on players?
If we want to dither around the top 6 then he's the keeper we want.
If we want to actually win things then he needs to be sold as he's a massive liability.

I get called overly critical of onana quite often.
But literally every single match we concede at least one goal where you can question what the fack he is doing with his weird or poor technique.

It's been a while where I haven't said to myself, "how has he not saved that?" Despite the defence being garbage, a fair few of the goals he doesn't save, he should be saving.

Willing to give him another season only because of the fact that pretty much 9 other positions in the first 11 need more urgent attention.

But yeah...
Willing to eat my own words next season if he proves me wrong but I doubt he will. He's w@nk.

An average GK who has a blunder in in him at any minute.

The squad is in need of so much though, that a GK is unrealistic this Summer.

David Raya would arguably have been a better, cheaper option.

The thing I'd say about Onana is that his "mistakes" are not, to my eye, typical of most GK's. He's not spilling the ball (llike Neuer last night), or dropping catches or doing Taibi's.

Onana's problem seems to be that shots that look very saveable seem to go past him in slightly unexplainable ways, and that his diving technique has always looked awkward, unorthodox and delayed.

He's just a bit of an enigma of a GK and I'm unsure that this is something that will change irrespective of how many shots he faces. Of course, less shots will decrease the rate at which these aspects of his game and style are exposed but I think he's a flawed GK even at his best.

I'd be surprised if he was our GK long term, but I'd also be very happy to see him improve and establish himself without the big questions marks hanging over him.
