Injuries to other Players

Often I have read on here people claiming that they wouldn't wish an injury of any sort on an opposition player. Such people say that they want to watch the best players play and stuff like they want no unfair advantages etc To be the best you have to beat the best and many fans want their teams to win trophies the hard way and not because a team's star player is out injured or whatever.

I think this is all a load of bull. This morning I'm reading the paper and I see Aguero may be out for up to 6 months. My smug grin was proof that this news pleased me. Injuries are a fact of football and I'd bloody rather City's players were picking up injuries over any other team's players. To say I wouldn't is just a lie.

So are people really so sporting that they don't take pleasure when a star player from another team injures himself?? Are Arsenal fans not hoping RVP breaks down tonight and barely kicks a ball all season??

it's depressing as fook and i wouldn't wish it on anyone. Can't imagine what the se top guys go through when they get such an injury

I suppose a swelling bank account with a weekly deposit of six-figures soothes them a bit.

Injuries are a part of the game. Some teams just happen to have more than others.
As football fans, we'd want our teams to do well, and win as many games as possible. But if factors such as injuries, suspensions etc.. hinder our opponents/ and help our team, we'd take it.
Say, next week when Liverpool play City and Liverpool fans see that City have got Hart, Kompany, Aguero, Tevez, Balotelli, Yaya Toure and Silva all out injured(not serious injuries)/suspended.
As football fans, Liverpool fans won't complain. They may be some sympathy towards those injured, but if Liverpool are going to benefit from it, then it's great for Liverpool fans. They would take a win over an injury hit City any day.

As a Man U fan, Aguero's injury is irrelvant compared to tonight's game. Man U need a result to get the season going. In the long term, Aguero's injury may help Man U and hinder City. However Man United need to focus on their own performance and get points.

When you've not got a lot of money you seem to think it's the answer to any concerns, however when you're loaded other things become real concerns because they are the things that matter to you! So yes, injured players will be gutted!

I never said they wont be gutted.

All i am saying is when compared with some Council-estate-dwelling chap who goes for a kick-about with his snarling mates twists his ankle or worse, he doesnt have the consolation of a fat bank account, a Page-3 or T.O.W.I.E hag - on in Balotelli's case, expensive pyrotechnics - to mitigate the situation.

Yes that's what you said; but does it actually have any rellevance here?!

Who says that the player would be gutted?? It's not like players have the best public image at the moment is it?? Tevez was happy to swan off to Argentina for a number of months last season to play golf. Wayne Bridge is happy to do eff all and pick up his big fat cheque from City. In fact City have a number of players who are happy to sit on their backsides and do nothing and pick up their massive wages.

And this isn't an attack at City, it's an attack on the modern footballer and just how a lot of these guys are so cut off from the fans it's not even funny. After all our very own Wayne Rooney is far from perfect too.

So to suggest that footballers are "gutted" every time they pick up an injury is a very sweeping statement. I don't doubt that there are genuine, honest and hard working footballers out there, but there's also a lot of players who are anything but.

Patriach, you encompassed my point very accurately.

Sad thing is that I'm pretty confident Aguero is in the gutted class - he tried to get back on yesterday ffs.

On a serious point, why do you think United have quite so many injuries? Down to one CB again tonight for example. Is it just bad luck?

I think a lot of it is down to bad luck. Because I can't believe that a club of United's size and stature and resources can't provide their players with the best care and training methods to give them the best chance of getting through a season with as little disruptions from injury as possible.

Things like this happen and United could now have one of their least injury hit seasons ever and each of us would be hard pressed to explain why. So it's best to just get on with it and not focus on who is missing, but focus on who is playing.

At the end of the day, yes, Vidic is a massive player for United but I feel people have all too quickly forgotten what a great job Evans did last year. He looked like he may have been on his was out of Old Trafford after a couple of shaky seasons but he stepped up to the plate last year and was by and large, very good for United.

For what it's worth, I think Aguero is also in the gutted class-probably why I was pleased to think he may miss a few games. Great player.
