Secretly we all have a little smile when important opposing players suffer injuries.

I'd never wish an injury, but if it happens and we gain an advantage, then good.

I think we're all happy in the sense that City have suffered a significant loss, but I like Aguero as a player and wouldn't wish him (or any player) harm. We're happy that the Club has suffered, not the player.

Just to disappoint you Agueros injury may not be too serious, possibly a couple of weeks.

Supporters just want their team to win and are willing to put their ‘morals’ to one side if it means their team is successful. How many supports would be happy to see opposition players injured, their own players feigning injury so an opponent would get sent off, diving, cheating, time wasting,etc……if it meant that their team won?

I think it is 'Schadenfreude'. As the polemicist Gore Vidal opined (although it is also attributed to David Merrick), 'it is not enough to succeed. Others must fail'.

Whilst one doesn't necessarily begrudge Kun Aguero or other to be horrendously injured, a wry smile will creep onto my lips, if each and every playing personnel of City or other rival incur an injury lasting about nine months.

It is Schadenfreude. We are all subject to it.

I would never wish an injury on a player, not because I want to see the best players or know that we've beaten the best an opposing team can throw at us; it's because no decent person in their right mind would wish such a thing upon a sports person!

If I hear of a player being out for some time I may think of how it could swing things in our favour, but I'd never wish it upon any player!!!

If watching a great player writhing in pain after a serious injury give you a smug grin then that's kind of sad. I posted on here wishing Vidic a good recovery last year and I meant it. I want to beat United, not because your players are injured, but becuase we are a better team.

I think when it comes down to it, we all say that we would prefer to beat a team that is at full strength, however if we play city at the end of the season, we would all be happy if a few of their players got injured - the differnece is long term injury or a niggle that makes them miss our game...

For me, I would never wish a serious injury on any person because of what team they play (however if people like JT or Saurez were to get seriously hurt that is a differnet situtation).. Aguero seems like a nice guy, great footballer to watch and we all want to say we beat City at full strength. Here's hoping he makes a quick recovery!!!

I think the posters above are getting tetchy. No one wishes opposition players injury, victory is often sweeter when there are no 'anchors' attached to it.

Pyrrhic victories are also not particularly sweet.

Do i want to smash Barca 6-0 in the champions league, decimate City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool - all with United's reserve team? Hell, Yes.

But make no mistake, if it is the CL final next May, Barca are our opponents and Messi, Xavi and Iniesta had a dodgy nocturnal pasta which resulted in diarrhoea the next day and they cannot play? Which was not due my or United's interference.

I will not cry about it. Infact, i will smile.

To suggest otherwise, will be mendacious.

I think this is all a load of bull. This morning I'm reading the paper and I see Aguero may be out for up to 6 months. My smug grin was proof that this news pleased me. Injuries are a fact of football and I'd bloody rather City's players were picking up injuries over any other team's players. To say I wouldn't is just a lie.

I never smiled because I saw him writhing around in pain, I didn't even see the incident. It was the fact that he may be out for a few months and thus hinder City's title challenge which gave me a smug grin.

United had loads of injuries last year, its well documented. But nobody bloody cares either. City won the league and that's all there is to it. And if you're claiming that seeing United's captain and best defender sidelined for half the season didn't give you some pleasure because the help it would give to City then I don't believe you.

Or else you're a bit soft.

I'm a bit gutted Aguero is injured, he's in my FF.

I wouldn't wish an injury on anyone, but I would love to injure a few players myself. Tevez and Busquets would be the first in line...

So basically if I see a player go down under a heavy challenge I do not think "hope he don't get up", "hope he has to be stretchered off", "hope he's out for a while."

If this occurs then so be it, and an advantage can be gained, and I may think "Mmmmmm...", but I wouldn't be wishing it upon them, and if you do you're a bit sadistic!!!

Some of this illustrates my point exactly. A lot of you believe that we won the prem because of injuries to United players. But it's BS. The prem is about your squad. If Aguero is seriously crocked I'll be devastated, cause he is fantastic to watch. But I won't use it as an excuse. I had a few worries yesterday after he was carried off, but it was feck all to do with the strength of our attack.

it would be the equivalent of having

kompany, silva, nasri, ballotelli, lescott, richards, zabaletta, clichy, de jong out for City this season.

Imagine that, they'd be crap

According to whom? Have you conducted a study and taken a tally that told you 'most of us' think you won it due to injury?

I think City won it fair and square. So do, most United fans. The position here is not about the player but about the position of the team.

No matter how you spin it, City is weaker without Aguero. Just like United was weaker without Vidic.

Injuries are part and parcel of the game.

I'm sorry KSB but if you have half your squad missing for half the season, it has to have an impact and if you can't see that you proably only have half a brain, which might explain why you're a city fan

The OP didn't actually say that he would wish an injury of any sort on an opposition player either. Just that he would be pleased if a big player like Aguero was put out for a time because City are weaker without him.

Injuries definitely effect a team's abilities. However, United did pretty well last year without Vidic and it's not a given that they would have performed better with him in the team. You just don't know that for a fact.

But like RC said, It doesn't matter. City won the title fair and square and I don't use United's injuries as an excuse because they are part and parcel of the game.

I just hope City pick up a Hell of a lot more of them than United do this season. End of the day, only the winners are remembered. Not how many injuries a team had in a season.

All missing for large parts of the season, not as much for Rooney though but he missed a few key games where we really needed him.

I am very bitter about losing the title to City. I do think it was won slightly unfairly but that isnt Citys fault we had our whole team injured for 10 month is it - even so, we should have won the title but somehow we threw away an 8 point lead

Throwing away the 8 point lead had is why United lost the league. Fair play to City for not giving up and all but at the end of the day, United have nobody to blame but themselves.
