Ahh my day

I would like to tell you about my day.
I had a job interview in Manchester, and as it turned out, the company occupy a high rise block overlooking Old Trafford.
I've never been there before, and couldn't resist the urge to sight see.
A couple of old boys were selling scarves outside the entrance. I took a picture and told him I was from Bristol. He came straight back at me with "Ashton Gate". I reminded him that we came to Old Trafford in the 70s and beat them 1-3. The two old boys suddenly looked mortified, like they were still trying to recover from it. I find it impressive that they take our club seriously even now, when you consider all the glory and pomp of Manchester United.
In my opinion, this is a quality attitude by them, and maybe underlines the strength that is in the English game in that there are many clubs like City, and they are well respected in the major football centres like Old Trafford.

It was an interesting day, reliving the great players from that part of the world. Best, Charlton, Law, Cantona, Beckham, Byrne, Edwards, Ronaldo hell I'm depressing myself now...
A galaxy of stars, but not so up themselves that they dont know the name of our ground, or remember the day we taught them to respect us

Anybody that claims to be a football fan yet doesn't know that Bristol Rovers play at Ashton Gate should be ashamed of themselves.

I've been to Manchester quite a lot over the last 7/8 years with successive children going to university there.
Sometimes I took the opportunity to watch cricket at the 'other' Old Trafford. A very hospitable ground; and when the conversation of the members there turned to football they all seemed to support either Bolton or Blackburn! Scarcely a mention of United or City!

I got chatting to a couple of fans in a City center pub after my interview. One was a City fan, one a United one. I listened to their conversation for 3/4 of an hour before joining in, and it was fascinating. I went over and congratulated them on conversing so intelligently over football and City V United. I said many in Bristol would have been enthralled by what they said concerning the beautiful game circa 1956 - 2011.
They were both very touched to hear this from a soft southerner. Football is alive and well in Manc.

Err sorry Brightredrickster - You came across well in interview, but to be honest we're looking for someone a bit younger and with a little more experience - Thanks for coming though
