I have just been watching a DVD of Brian Clough taking over at Notts Forest in the 1970s which brought back good memories for myself as this was the era I started watching Leeds United. I remember going to a League Cup semi final against them and was very happy Peter Shilton was injured.
They had a young upstart in goal Chris Woods, we thought this was our chance, little did we know. I also remember queuing outside the City Ground only for it to be abandoned due to fog.
It got me thinking could we do a similar thing and rise from the bottom of the Championship to win the Champions League in just a few short seasons. The short answer is NO as we are unfortunately a selling club and any quality we find on the pitch is quickly auctioned to the highest bidder.
But maybe we can, that it why I keep coming back for more.

Great times Jonty, I am 51 and went to a lot of matches with my dad in the early 1970s. I remember the good times well which keeps me going.
One game that I do remember well was not a victory but a loss in the cup to Malcolm Allisons Crystal Palace. I sat in the south stand and was amazed at how well a third division team could play with a decent manager. For me this is a positive memory as it should give hope to all teams in the lower divisions.

I would think it would be hard for a side to be promoted and win the premier league in two seasons like we did without massive investment, though Leicester are giving it a good go, does anyone know how much Leicester have invested on players in the last 5-6 years ?

Don, I'm talking about the money needed to be regular top 4.

Jonty
Just imagine how much less we'd need to spend if we kept all our best players over the last 5 years and how much more talent would have come through the academy being a premier league club run properly.

Harj- Dickie Guy, I must admit I had to google that one, but I do remember the penalty. Great team we had back then, but I did like the 1991-92 team as well. 6-1 at Weds springs to mind.

Harrogate, maybe that's why people like cellino want to keep us where we are cos FL rules may not be as strict as premier league rules...cos I don't think there is a single premier league run as bad as us....
