Not wing backs no. More a flexible role that allows a 5 in mf when needed but also a 5 in attack.

We tend to play more through the middle these days anyway rather than wingers crossing into forwards. These 3 can play through the middle but also go wide.

With the subs we can have things can be changed up if needed

And it fits our better players in.

I'm thinking more defensively what your formation will be. Who fills in to make a back 5 or 4?

Ok so it is a bit experimental, however I do often think with forward play being such a weak point of AWB would he have the athletic ability to convert to a Centre half... if not then Mengi would be my shout there.... cant be any worse I like Fred's work rate and just had to have him in there somewhere.I am aware we have just bought 2 wingers so guessing the formation may not change.. so

The best football we played this year was prior to lockdown with Fred and mctiminey in midfield. We did get good results with matic and pogba after lockdown but we also scrapped through so many games and let's be honest most of our matches post lockdown were against teams with nothing to play for. We also failed badly and played badly against Seville and chelsea as these 2 in midfield simply do not have the legs for it. In matics defence it's impossible to cover for pogbas laziness. We either need to decide to push pogba forward into Hernandez position or else drop him from the team.

Pogba. Midfield will be completely over run. I got one am sick if his lack of workrate in defensive positions. How many times did Hernandez chase back past pogba in that first half. Hernandez sprinting back to help the team out. Pogba somewhere between a stroll and a walk

it's not bang on, we completely dominated the midfield against sevilla - partly because fernandes actually dropped back to help out in midfield, which he doesn't do religiously - and lost because of inefficiency at both ends. and very odd to cite the chelsea game, which pogba didn't start - fred and matic started, did nothing, and pogba was called upon when we were 2-0 down.

likewise the only game post lockdown we looked liked losing was vs spurs, when fred and mctominay did nothing for 60 minutes, and pogba won us the penalty to get back into the match.

there is a fairly obvious reason why people keep blaming the midfield - ask yourself how many players other teams play in midfield, and how many we play in midfield. and that will tell you why we often seem to be overrun.
