It’s official, he’s leaving at the end of the season. I mildly feel sorry for him but he’s made more money not playing than any of us ever will working our asses off so hard to be too sympathetic. Will always be remembered for his gurns and weird ground head tackles.
Should help the wage bill a tiny bit.
On a separate note on the other end of the spectrum and perhaps Rosso can confirm whether this is true - I saw on tiktok (so dubious source) that Bruno has never missed a game with an injury in his entire career. If true that is incredible…
Adios Phil Jones

Think of the spin he could put on his CV.
Man Utd Centre Back 2011-2023 (12 years)
England Centre back 2011-2018 (7 years)
Achievements: PL winner, FA Cup winner, Europa League winner, Charity Shield winner
Phil is an England international centre back with 12 years' experience at the highest level of world football at Man Utd and England.
During his time at Man Utd he conceded the fewest goals of any centre back in the world over the same period.
Phil went 3 consecutive years without getting injured during a match.
During his illustrious career, Phil has partnered world class centre backs such as Vidic, Ferdinand, Varane, £85m Maguire, among others.
Phil has worked under the tenure-ship of some of the world's greatest ever managers including Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Louis Van Gaal, amongst other.
Despite being in the game for 14 years, Phil has very low mileage on the clock for a model of this age and would suit a club looking for a reliable run around.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Phil talks about himself in the third person not because he is a boxer or an egomaniacal oddball, but because the first person is recovering from injury

He was a reliable (and genuine) cb.
Still put him in before Lindelof.
But I can see the long-term sense in letting him go.
Doesn't change the reality that a reliable (and genuine) cb to partner varane and/or maguire is a top priority

Reliable?! He hasn’t been fit to do a single training session this season you idiot.

You are right though he is an idiot. It was ten years ago Jones was last reliable.

It might not be such a bad idea for clubs to put compulsory clauses for players on lengthy injury layoffs, whereby they have to do something productive for the club. Have them commit to studying something, learning about more intricate aspects of the game, doing training badges for example, then put them to work in some capacity within the club until they're fit to play again.
It'd be a win-win situation really. Someone like Jones would've had plenty of coaching experience by now.
