Ruthless with sales

An issue we have at the minute is offloading players. We need to sell to make room in the squad and raise a few quid, but some of these players are on big wages.

If the Qatari's come in and we can be a bit more relaxed with funds, I’d like us to get ruthless with players who aren’t playing much.

Take Maguire for example. Rumour is we might pay him £10mil to go. If we didn’t need to get his wages off the books, I’d say to him listen, you aren’t going to play next season and you can either except a transfer and we’ll be reasonable with the fee, or you aren’t even being registered in the squad and we’re buying a replacement; never mind keeping your captaincy.

These players with a massively inflated opinion of themselves will soon feck off after 6 months of no games and losing their international places.

Thoughts?

The moment you start threatening to drop players to the reserves or not playing them at all is the moment your club falls to ruins.

It all plays out in the public arena and the club get a reputation as being a bunch of cut throat cunnnts.

There's a reason no club takes this approach.

Far better to just start giving out more considered contracts.

People championing Citys leadership team, despite them cheating FFP from day 1. Probably the biggest scandal of the Prem era.

Rdd... Ctys football management team is second to none.

The money they get to spend on their project from the money men is as dirty as dishwater.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They are all involved / complicit.

How do you know? Seems odd that you claim that none of us know the United staff do and are responsible for, but you know exactly that of the City staff. Where do you get your inside info from?

My memory is crap and it may not have been the exact same circumstances but I'm sure SAF relegated players to the reserves for misbehaving and even dropped players completely for periods of time.

I think players should know that they are not invincible and the managers can fack them off at any moment, much like SAF used to handle things.

Feels like managers have to tip toe around players these days, even if they're fking rubbish like maguire.

I can't think of any instances, but he might have done that. But I don't think he ever did it because he wanted rid of a player on a huge wage that hadn't worked out.

What is the rationale & basis for the rumour that we'd pay Maguire off? He's easily one of our more sellable assets. We either sell him or we don't. We're not going to pay him to leave!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Maguire is 30, has had a poor couple years and is on about £200k a week with 3 years left to run.

All these factors make him very hard to shift for good money. None of his likely destinations would pay him that, so he'd need a decent signing on bonus if he were to take a wage drop and this usually means a smaller transfer fee.

I can see him being West Ham's Captain in 23/24 season, and they'll pay £15-20m for him.

I suspect that is probably the case - hopefully time will answer that question. But you are accusing every part of the leadership team of being complicit. Where is your evidence for that?

In my experience, if you want to keep a bog secret a secret, you don't achieve that by letting lots of people in on it.
