Unpopular opinion on...

...Antony.

Guy had some tough personal dilemmas to deal with. Not seen many empathise with this kid.

I reckon he has great potential.

I agree wholeheartedly, as a Gooner I think he needs another 10 years...

Here's a few players better than Antony

Pepe
Bebe
Titus Bramble
Taibi

Our own scouts only valued him at £25m months before we bought him and that’s what he is. Dan James and Elanga are both better.

As long as ETH is at the helm, Antony will get his chance. We have been unlucky with injuries, as have others.

"I know from the past he is unstoppable, no defender can stop him because he's one of the quickest in the first 10 yards, when he plays that game I'm sure he will perform, he is resilient, he is a character," Ten Hag told a press conference on Tuesday

Fine words from ETH, but in reality ETH has dropped his man for Garnacho, Forson and even turned to Amad off the bench ahead of him for quite some time now.

ETH actually dropped him earlier in the season and started playing Rashford on the right, until Rashford showed he's no better that side than Antony is.

There was a story that came out around the time we signed Antony claiming that United scouts had reservations about how well Antony's dribbling style would translate to the PL. Two seasons of watching him fail to take anyone on and it may just have been the case that that particular leak was legit. Ditto the '£25m valuation' story.

He's never really looked a PL player for more than the odd fleeting moment, let alone a starter for a team trying to get into the CL places.

Imagine an attacking winger who can't take on players being valued at 25 million though.... Even that's a ripoff.
The guy can't even beat Dan Burn FFS, a 6 foot 6 guys who's slower than Maguire.

Total nonsense.

Let me guess, you made your mind up about Antony a long time ago and insist you were right, right?

….

Well, no, RDD. I gave him the benefit of doubt for his first season. He has got worse this season.

This is why you will remain on filter. You are a football dimwit.

At £25m he’d have looked decent business: 22 years old, room to develop, posting good numbers for Ajax incl. the CL, works hard and understands the demands of the manager. He’d have retained the majority of his value had we decided to move him on. His current position on the bench wouldn’t have looked like a disaster at £25m, but rather a low-ish cost punt on talented prospect (not dissimilar to how most of us view Dan James’ signing).

But I think even as a £25m signing it would have been a bit pointless after also buying Amad, Pellistri and Sancho for the RW as well in recent years. Even at a lower price I don’t see him having the qualities to improve and be of much use to us and with us needing aso many areas improving it would have just been money wasted. The only positive would have been that he would have probably been a lot easier to move on.

Having no right foot, pace or dribbling ability are going to hinder any chance of being a good wide player, no matter what your value.
