Old Trafford Update - Thoughts?

So a few outlets have just run the news that a £2bn 100,000 seater new stadium is the 'preferred option'.

But the bigger news is that the potential plan involves KEEPING our current and historic home Old Trafford, but refurbishing and downscaling it to a single tier 30,000 seater stadium to use for the Academy and Womens teams. It would involve preserving key features such as statues of legends and tributes to Munich (the clock and the tunnel).

This would really be the best of both worlds, surely?

Also allows us to play in a full capacity OT until the new stadium is completely ready to move into, as the renovation and reduction of OT wouldn’t start until new stadium is finished.

Zero impact on matchday revenue either.

Once New Trafford is ready they may experiment the "hear man Utd but can't see" match day experience at a reduced fee. Match could be streamed live to the original stadium. If no one is doing this I want commission for the idea!

I did think they could have a big screen for away games perhaps.

By the time it's finished, £2bn will probably be the going rate for a player

2bn sounds about right then considering additional size and increase in material and finance costs.

and the fact that that the whole project could take several years to complete. And probably wont get started for a few years yet.

Jim need to cost up a few plans and release some high quality CGI/VFX showreels of the main contenders for discussion. ASAP

This means that Jim can keep the name "Old Trafford" on the old stadium and then sell the naming rights for the new stadium, hopefully appeasing fans who wouldn't want to lose the traditional name.

The predicted value of the naming rights is around the £26m per season mark, and we could potentially start earning whilst building, as the new name would be splashed in the media immediately.

Potential £100m odd to add to the kitty..........
