Phoney9ers and Farkall

Leeds 3 Portsmouth 3 - a very disjointed inconsistent performance resulting in 2 massive points dropped on the first game of the season.
How did we get here?

Pre game.............

The Phoney9ers.
We have options if we lose Summerville/Gnonto
We do contracts in our sleep.
We will be aggressive in the transfer market
We have had about 10-11 days since it was known Summerville was leaving.
Action taken - 0/10
Actions speak louder than words.............

19 players for 19 shirts today for a side with 36,000 fans coming every week, Red Bull sponsorship, record shirt sales, £85m of sales, playoff final money. The squad depth of a puddle.

In game

More Farkall than Farke today. Cost us 2 points with some bizarre tactics and more poor substitutions.

1-0 up at home on the first day and playing well. I cannot recall in 45 years of watching this game a team swapping fullbacks, but not only swapping full backs but the right back going to left back and the left back going to inverted right winger. What the farkeing hell was this?????? It culminated into Portsmouth scoring when we had no right back because Bogle was marking Firpo who had gone back to left back. Absolute chaos. Seriously I have absolutely no idea what the hell these tactics were. Goals change games and suddenly Pompey are full of confidence. Yes, Meslier should have saved the shot but for the bizarre tactics there would not have been a shot to save.

Substitutes.
Takes off Gnonto/James who were both playing well and gives us less width by playing two attacking midfielders out wide.
We were crying out for Sam Byram to come on for Bogle who simply had one of the worst debuts I have seen in a long long time. £5m quid. He looked like a lad picked up on a street corner because we only have 10 players and they shoved him at fullback. Poor first touch early on, hospital pass early on, didnt win one header all day, terrible defending for the third goal. Yes - he can attack and get a good ball in but I have no idea how many goals he is going to cost us this season. So far he is on -2. Byram/Rothwell for Bogle/Gruev was the right call. Steady the defence and give us something extra in midfield. Farke substitutes again made us worse.

85 minutes to react.
So it took 85 minutes for Rodon to come over to the right to win an header from one of Pompeys long balls to the bald dude. 85 minutes!! It was clear as day that their best outlet was the ball to baldy. Farke did absolutely nothing to combat it which is even more puzzling with how defensively bad Bogle was and you have a decent full back header Byram on the bench.

Absolutely livid with that game.
Pompey had 6 touches in our box and scored 3 goals. We had 39!
Corner count 12-0
Shots 22-5 and one of theirs was from 60yards out.

Farke "We're disappointed"..............you can say that again!!!

SORT IT OUT PHONEY9ERS AND FARKALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps still think we will win the league and have heavily backed us but that was a stinker of a start

We will do well to have the same start that we had last season which was 8 points from 5 league games.
Yesterday was a real kick in the gonads as to thinking we are going to be Champions. Yes it's just 1 game but there were some fairly stand out concerns that were a major issue late last season too and it was very disappointing the same mistakes were made again.
So we have WBA, Shef Wed Hull and Burnley up next and like I say we will do very well to get 7 points from those games and therefore we'll like last season be playing catch up.

I hope to God it is clickbait but there are alarming rumours that Brighton are going to push really hard to get Rutter and I'm not confident our owners would turn down a £40 million bid before the window closes and also there's still strong indications that Gnonto will attract a bid of £25 million plus and again our owners don't strike me as a group of individuals to turn down that sort of money.

If by the time the transfer window closes we have lost Rutter and Gnonto I think we'll struggle big time to get promotion whoever is brought in to replace them but hopefully this won't be the case and these are just mischievous rumours.

Phoney9ers and Farkall

^^^

Both made me laugh out loud.

I'll continue to give the 49ers the benefit for now.

Farke though, he's on thin ice for me. He needs
to get his managerial act together. As others point
out his subs are still bloody woeful.

The idea that we'd walk this league this season
in a weakened division already looks daft. We are
good enough for top 6 right now. That's about it.

We have the potential to be the top team. Or at
the least top 3 if Farke gets his act together. Still
not convinced he has the tactical know how to
overcome situation. We relied on individual skill
again yesterday to bail us out.

Macca, we lose Rutter and Gnonto and I don't see a team, just a group of individuals.

I would see a massive reaction to the sale of Rutter, what is that old film, a bridge too far, there are only so many sales you can make before you start to rip out the identity of the club.

If we lose Rutter & Gnonto we are just another
Championship team. Which would mean the 49ers
would need to add real quality. If we lost both on
the last day of the window - knowing the club
operates one out one in - we'll be short handed.

I talked about this the other day.....if Leeds received a 30/40m bid for Rutter, would you trust them to turn it down?

No. Zero chance.

And if these rumours end up being true,
we might be wondering how bad it'll be
next season with assets stripped and
last phase of parachute payments.

Lots of ifs.
49er's aren't seriously trying to get to the PL
If they sell rutter and gnonto.

Regardless of what Farke did, a quality goalie would´ve saved their first.
Their pen was not a pen. It started outside the box, and as such it should´ve been a free kick from there. At best.

I trust Farke. I do not trust Meslier. It´s time to bring in a goalie who hasn´t got holes in his gloves

Hang on, Leeds dominated the game and Portsmouth had 3 shots on goal and scored 3. 1 of which was from a 1 in hundred strike another a goalkeeper error and lastly a Pen that was a bit dubious. 9 times out of 10 Leeds win that comfortably. We looked a lot more threatening that last year and created chances on our right as well as left.

Only thing I would say is that we couldn't sustain pressure for long periods of time which was frustrating. The subs were also pretty poor though. Need about 3 players to bolster the squad but let's judge by the end of the window
