Key quotes
On whether he’d want to employ his own system straight away, or whether he’d adapt to suit a style the players are more used to:
“As a coach, you have to choose one way or another. I choose always 100 per cent our way. I prefer to risk a little bit, but to push in the first moment. If they feel that since the first day that I believe so much in our way of playing, they will believe too. So there is no second doubts, no second way. It’s one way and we are going to do it.
“We will adapt some players because we don’t have the right profile. This team was built for a different system. But it’s the same thing playing with five or four. The principles are the same. The positioning is a little bit different."
On whether two and a half years is long enough to bring United back to the top:
“I think two years, you can understand if I’m the right manager to go in this process. I think we will need more time because if you look to the other clubs that are winning this league, they are doing this process for a long time but they are winning, that is why they have time to do this project.
“ I understand that we will need more than two and a half years, we will have to win something somewhere, but in two years you can understand if you want to continue in this path or you change. We will see how long it will be."
On who will have control of transfers:
“It has to be altogether. We have to improve our process of recruitment. The final word [on recruitment] should be the manager’s.
“It’s not that it’s your right: it’s your responsibility. Because the results are down to me. I have to understand the league. When everyone is on the same page, we can buy and sell players."
Has that been agreed, Amorim is asked: that he has the final say on purchases?
“It’s not the final, the final [say]. I have agreed responsibility when we choose players. I am the head coach."

Rúben Amorim when asked whether he’s going to use fullbacks or wingers as wingbacks:
“We should START with fullbacks, because to teach a winger to defend is harder.”

This is good to hear, we’re not ready for a back three formation yet.

I reckon it’s gonna be Dalot and Mazraoui wide of the three CBs on Sun.

Hasn’t put on a United shirt, yet. Neuroscience could learn a lot about the brain from studying this club.

Watched all 3 interviews now....the one he did on the pitch, the one with Neville and the press conference.
You can't help but like what you hear. Seems like we got a good one for sure and I'm actually looking forward to our games again. Let's hope we get off to a good start this weekend which will definitely help him settle in quickly.

We've had our far share of falling outs
I agree with this. My ONLY reservations are this is how we were with ETH.
I hope Gaffer gets off to a good start. That's all.

ETH wasn't a bad coach when we first got him. He just couldn't handle the job.

I haven’t watched the press conference yet, but I caught Gary Neville’s interview with him on Sky. He’s truly a breath of fresh air. We absolutely must give him the time and space to get things right. I believe Dan Ashworth has found his man, and the sporting side looks set to function as a unified, symbiotic operation. Now, it’s up to the sporting leadership to set the tone and culture—a culture of winning and success that permeates throughout the club.
As first impressions go, I am blown away, let's see what the football is like on match day!

Going to be interesting with him in charge

I really just hope to see more energy. We’ve been far too pedestrian for years now especially at OT.

There is something about the way he speaks and sounds, it is different to ETH. That is not ETH's fault, everyone has there own way of doing things. ETH was a good manager, but he just wasn't made out for what was required at Utd - that would be the same for the vast majority of managers.
There is definitely a different feeling around Amorim, he may indeed have that bit of X factor that you need to manager Utd - certainly the first manager since Fergie where I have been genuinely excited about the appointment - I hope he fulfils what we all hope.

What are people's thoughts on him picking transfers etc or did I misunderstand the process

I found it interesting when he referred to himself as the manager but quickly corrected himself to "coach." May even be semantics and we should not read too much into it. It may suggest there’s some level of input from the coach, as there should be. If we think of Dan Ashworth and Ruben Amorim as a unified team, it makes sense that they’d work together on the player profiles needed, with Dan having the final say.
Amorim should have the freedom to share his views on the type of players he needs. However, for long term sustainability, the squad must be shaped by the DoF, independent of the coach. Otherwise, there’s a danger of ending up with a disjointed squad that’s costly and time consuming to fix. That said, we’re assuming Dan Ashworth has a blueprint for future success. It might still be a work in progress, develop alongside Amorim, or even be scrapped if Amorim departs. Unless Ashworth clearly outlines his vision, there will always be conjecture about how much input Amorim actually has.
