I would like to see beckford back at leeds but would we see him scoring 20+ goals a season in the championship
i'd love to have him back at leeds...
old smurfy pants got rid in haste...the old fool !
harj...
Where abouts in 'I want to play PL football now' does 'old smurfy pants' appear?'
on the ambition front....or lack of eric...
We'd only just arrived in the Championship harj...!
The boy wanted to go and the boy went.
If he tried hard enough, he would've stayed....ambition thats what its all about & old smurfy pants ain't got none...
I'd have him back, he never wanted to leave in the first place.
But, if Somma makes full recovery I reckon there would be no need for beckford.
The questions have to be!..
How many here could live with the sulks and dressing room bust ups?..
And would you's be happy going on the pitch wondering what game he was going to have?..
jonty...i think becchio may get off loaded in the summer...somma's had a set back on the injury front, so am not holding much hope on him...
Germany, we saw what beckford could do season in season out.
We haven't seen that from paynter or McCormack or forsell.
I could handle the unpredictability for a proven goalscorer who knows how to score when it counts.
Harj, I really like soma but I'm concerned too.
If he does regain full fitness I think he's better than beckford.
Id love Becks back at Leeds, why not put a double bid in for Mills and Beckford... Might cost a few quid but would be a fantastic deal!
germany...imo grayson lost a number of players, more than him just having a moan, i think he'd know where he stood with warnock though...
harj you are a card!
He was tapped up by a PL team, Everton in the January. He stayed and assisted in getting us promoted. He was offered a new contract and declined it.
You do not know what that contract offer was, you read the speculation on here and take it as evidence! Jonty, I believe it was him, might be wrong, (button holed him at a Barnet fun day) asked him about his contract offer and reported that JB had confided in him how poor the offer was...?
JB would naturally do that to some total stranger...?
I realise you don't like Bates, but you shouldn't let it cloud your judgement.
Jonty, you know I thought that the Beckford/Becchio partnership was as good as any!..
But I've seen since that Becchio is just as good with the goals and I've always said Beckford without Becchio wouldn't have scored what he did for us!..
You never know, if he did come back then maybe Becchio will give him his goals, but hopefully Becchio has learnt not to be his number two!..
I'm only thinking of the goals that he scored for us, and the problems that went on in the dressing room, and I'd think looking at him at Leicester he doesn't seem to have changed!..
Would he be good for us or would he unsettle us?..
harj, its a case of could he handle Warnock?.
eric, no i don't know what was in the everton contract, but thats exactly my point if the contract offered had been any good he may still have been a leeds player, just like all the other players that were sold....because of smurfy's lack of ambition....
"I could handle the unpredictability for a proven goalscorer who knows how to score when it counts."
Thing is, I don't think Beckford did score in crunch games.
Sorry, hit "SEND" too quick, with 1 or 2 exceptions - Jan 3 cup game and Bristol Rovers he was inspirational on the pitch that day.
harj, I'm not talking about the offer from Everton, that was obviously good enough as it involved PL football immediately and he went...
I am talking about the offer from Leeds that you do not know the content of. The one that offered Championship football for a minimum of a season!
Whatever Leeds offered him would not have been good enough because it did not guarantee PL football and he would have left anyway.
I do not believe 'may have stayed' was an option.
You must believe what you want?
That is for you to decide.
LufcGermany, I'd actually have him back. Warnock would sort him out!
Jonny he didn't until
Man utd but then he developed the knack from that game, remember spurs away too.
We shouldn't forget, most of our top players that left have gone to the Prem!..
It doesn't matter how big or small we may think a Premier team is, its the League that pulls them not the teams!..
And Beckford could have gone sooner if the club wanted to cash in, but Grayson wanted him to finish the job in hand, another one of Graysons faults I suppose, if he'd let him go we would have got something for him, but at the same time we might not have gone up, so credit to both, Grayson on making him stay and Beckford for doing what was wanted of him!.
Eric, I'm sure Warnock would be more then a match for him!..
I only asked could he handle Warnock, because I have a feeling sulking isn't high on Warnocks favourits list!..
Germany - from January - April of Beckford's final season he was totally disappointing, scored very few, went missing in games and pouted almost throughout.
That is my lasting impression.
That's very true JLA.
He was very disappointing in the run up to our promotion, his body language was awful.
I'm hoping Somma can be an important player for us once he's fully fit again.
Pity Grayson never seemed to give him a look in.
