"Messi plays in a team that's built around him, has never proven himself outside of Barcelona and will probably never will. He's just a modern day Pele, will get high accolades but never went out of his comfort zone"

Statement like these make me realise some people just shouldn't watch football.

Ronaldo shouldn't even be compared to Messi. Messi has his own place in the world's best by a mile.

The debate should be who's the 2nd best..Xavi or Ronaldo!

As Zlatan said Messi is a talent, while Ronaldo is the work of hard work in training. I think that says it all.

Plus Messi himself has said he isn't at his peak yet! So when he does reach his peak, I'm hoping people shut up.

Even Heskey could get 20+ goals in the Barcelona team

Yeah and Ronaldo did international wise?

Those comparing their scoring records miss the point IMO. Messi could score half Ronaldo's goals and I'll still consider him a better footballer. And I'll reiterate what the guy above said: anyone who thinks Ronaldo is better is either reta rded, a Ronaldo fangirl or should just follow another sport.

"So anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot?"

You know what's amusing. You moaned we're not making any good points earlier. Yet you're offering one liners.

Xavi >Ronaldo.

Saying he's a more complete player does mean anything, in that case:

Essien>Fabregas, iniesta,xavi,sneijder,alonso etc.

Also, their goal records for their countries are pretty similar:

Messi: 22 goals in 68 games for Argentina

Ronaldo: 32 goals in 88 games for portugal

Messi is significantly better. Just look at the contrast in goals they score.

Talk sense please, that wouldn't happen. It annoys me so much how 'Stoke away on a cold, windy night' are said to be the pass as to whether or not a team/player are any good.

course it could happen

How would Heskey score 20 goals a season, with Barcelona?

Great rebuttal there.

A couple of seasons back, in his last year with Man Utd, I think Ronaldo was the best player in the world and probably had been for two seasons. THe problem is that in the last couple of seasons, Messi has moved up 3 notches and is unplayable at present. I am a Barça fan so am bias but I don't think the world has seen two such wonderful players, with Messi being ahead of Ronaldo. The only thing Ronaldo has that Messi doesn't is power but with his brain, vision, speed of though and speed of touch, Messi doesn't need it. You also have to look at Messi's assists which this season are three times those of Ronaldo.

Good argument.

I prefer Ronaldo, you prefer Messi.

Some people like soggy chips while some like cripsy.

Just who I prefer

posted on 7/4/12

I was'nt argueing, i was just contributing to his ever growing portfolio.

This isn't about who you prefer. It's about who's better. And Messi is clearly streets ahead of Ronaldo. It's not even close.

Also annoys me when people say 'Messi has players like Iniesta, Xavi, Sanchez etc around him'. Yeah, because Ronaldo doesn't have Alonso, Di Maria, Ozil etc.

The fact Messi even gets considered the greatest, and Ronaldo doesn't is a big statement.

Plus Messi only 24! By the time he's 34, he's undoubtedly will break every record there's to break and go down in everyone's eyes as the best ever.
