Mallorca - cracking post mate

I never thought about the impact the 'bad old days' could have had on us...

I suppose im part of THAT generation whose parents watched us in the 4th division, they were die hard Bolton, very much like me and there forefathers too.

the issue is, that we did lose a lot of fans back then - only the 'die hard' element stayed with the club, obviously they were either glory hunters, and started to support THAT lot down the road (hence why there were so many 'united fans' in my primary school who thought Bolton were a laughing stock) or simply didn't care that much and found something else to do on a Saturday.

I can see the same sort of thing happening should we go down this season and not come back at the first attempt...

You forget that we have been going through and are still going through one of the worst resessions in decades. The fact that the stadium is anywhere near full during these times has to be commended, but trips down to Wembley for a small club like Bolton are an expense that many folk can't stretch to. We took a large following to Wembley, but if that had been Fulham, they won't have sold their allocation either and they are less than 10 miles from the stadium!

We have a small catchment area of fans, so we will never compete for crowds like Stoke who are surrounded by miles and miles of nothing

True, we are in a recession...but looking like you give a flying during a game costs nothing - hence why i called some of our fans apathetic...

also, a trip to Wembley would not be any more or less affordable if we supported Man united, Swansea or Brentford... the ticket prices would still have been the same regardless.

Back to OP prediction :

15th Wigan
16th Bolton
17th Villa
18th QPR
19th Blackburn
20th Wolves

p.s. wish i had seen this thread earlier rather than filling Phil's copier!!

The original post clearly isn't a fair or balanced one, but then there's nothing necessarily wrong with that, it's RivingtonMike's opinion. Like JAH I do find some of the OP ridiculous, because it is presented in the form of an analysis and the analysis ends when it gets to the bit about Bolton and starts again with the Wolves section.

I see this thread has already got heated enough without me contributing to that.

20 points from the last 16 games, people. Mid-table form.

The ball is in our court. My standings last until 5 tomorrow. At that point we can judge whether or not we will run with it.

Petrov - try sticking with that prediction - no need to amend on a game by game basis

Petrov - the whole idea of a prediction is what you think will happen from now on.

5 games left who goes down will change on a game by game basis.

Win tomorrow people will have us staying up if other results go our way.

But it's about predicting, not stating the bleeding obvious...

Predictions can change nothing needs setting in stone

I made my prediction in December and haven't changed it once - it's more fun and more satisfying that way - try it.

We have 6 games to play in a short period of time, thats either gonna take its toll on the players/squad with more injuries or fatigue, or on the other hand if the team can get a couple of early wins then we get some momentum to the end of the season and keep us up.

I honestly think we could only win 1 more game and stay up, fancy QPR to lose their final 4 games..no one is going to play half heartedly against them now teams know they can beat you.

Um, I wish I was this optimistic! QPR are going to get atleast a point versus a deflated out of form/luck Spurs team.

So, on that basis, we'll need atleast 4 even if they lose all their other games.

I'm not resigned to going down, but the more I think about our financial situation, the more I think going down might be needed. Yes it would take us to the edge of existence, but it would spark the needed restructuring and re-thinking of how we run our football club.
